That's terrifying. I had BG66UM snap on me when I was stringing. I was lucky that it snapped near the first tie-off when I started doing the crosses. It was scary when it suddenly went BANG! And the 66UM is more durable than AS. I was only pulling for 28lbs with a 32lbs overclock.
You wish My old stringer kept calling it rubbish compared to YY strings, but I'm quite content with it.
Ouch, No.1 is pretty easy to tell when you've missed the sweetspot. You get that lackluster thud instead of the sharp snap.
Right - that's it. I'm done with this stuff. Had one go in the bag for no reason last week. While trying to do that racket just now I spotted a fray on the set, binned it halfway through, and then spotted a fray on the second set. Stringing with this stuff is becoming a coin-toss now, so I'm going over to LN #1 for a while - that one eats my tensions for breakfast.
Thanks Mark. Got 4 sets out of your 'dregs' reel. That's 2 for me to try at a couple of tensions, sent one to emjay already. I've never seen anythhing coil so bad, when taking it off the reel! not looking forward to string shared holes. Also it feels noticeably warm when pulling it through my hands to measure it out, not noticed that in any other string either. weird. Luckily only using 24lb. Same gauge and texture as vs850 - which adds to my suspicion that gosen OEM for victor. or vice versa.
I've had at least 3 reels of each. They're identical. Same smell, thickness, surface texture, they even both go really brittle in the winter. It's the same string.
Soon you'll have to start using tennis strings... But I would guess Gosen is the OEM for Victor if that's the case, it's unlikely Victor would sell a product to Gosen and then for Gosen to sell it cheaper.
Not at surprising about the Gosen-Victor OEM. In fact, a few years ago, I was told (rumoured) that Gosen is the "super" OEM for most of the strings found/made in Asia (without naming names)
