For both the Thomas and Uber Cup the 4th place goes to the highest ranked 4th placed teams between the Asia and Europe qualifiers. Barring freak results that should be Asia for both tournaments.

Don't be too caught in with the Thai crisis. Remember the teams for both the Uber Cup and Thomas Cup were named after the resignations and all these players were included in the team list. They will end up playing.

Based on the draw and the fact that 2 teams qualify from each Thomas Cup group both Japan and Korea will be in the semis as Group B is the weakest of the lot.

What's the draw for Stage 3 of the Asian qualifiers?

    For these..

    - Any news to confirm whether the THA's top players will "end up playing"??..
    - For the knock-out stage or 3rd stage, from the past qualifying events:
    Upper half:
Winner of Group A will face 2nd place winner of Group C
Winner of Group D will face 2nd place winner of Group B
    Lower half:
Winner of Group B will face 2nd place winner of Group D
Winner of Group C will face 2nd place winner of Group A

However, BWF probably will use another random drawing, as proposed, after the group matches are done. It should apply for both the T&UC events. And we won't see the match-ups til then.

For a bit more, here's the ruling:
3.8 Draw for the Knock-out stage:
3.8.1 The draw for the knock-out stage of the Competition shall be done immediately after the last match of the group play off is over.
3.8.2 Two top ranked teams from each group will qualify for this stage.
3.8.3 The top teams of each group will be ranked in order of their strength in the manner described in Regulation 3.4.6, based on the most recently published World Ranking immediately preceding the date of the draw. These teams will be considered as Seed No. 1 to 4 for the draw.
3.8.4 The 4 seeded teams will be placed in the draw as per General Competition Regulation 12. Remaining teams will be placed in the draw by lot.

Yup don't get me wrong i'd love to see Indonesia in both cups. Somehow the Thomas and Uber Cup finals won't be the same without Indonesia. But in my opinion the woman are not strong. I can't think of any strong woman's single player or doubles pair from Indonesia. Hopefully I m wrong.

Totally different. Choi is single player and LYD is Korea top MD player. If JJS pair with LYD they will get one point 100% in prem.

But I do not think Korea had to worry. Their doubles were good enough to win 2 points from their prem group.

Don't know why they were playing without Robertson and Smith... Anyway they (Ouseph, Adcock&Blair and Baxter) were completely destroyed losing after 3 first games 0:3 and the next two matches were without significance.

    smart thinking by them

hmm, maybe they all thought therey's no chance for them to win or even advance to the semis anyway in malysia if they qualify.so, why waste energy, time and money to travel to malysia.plus there's no real incentive for them playing in the thomas cup even if they advance to semifinal round or final round but not win it all.no money nor world ranking points given.

I don't think all players play purely for money.
Especially in England, if you want to make money you can always go for soccer, rugby, cricket or heck even kayaking.... :)
English team played badly and they lost:eek:. I am pretty sure, if they could they would have loved to play in Thomas Cup. I don't think the English Badminton Federation is so poor, they can't arrange for tickets or daily expenses or are they??!!

    England lost on merit.
They simply were not good enough to beat Poland in Poland.
The woman were always expected to loose and I guess the home crowd support pulled the Polish men's team to an upset.
Remember the 1992 Thomas Cup in KL when nobody believed the Malaysian Thomas Cup team could win over a very strong Indonesian team. Somehow the Malaysians did, the winning point coming from the most unlikely source, Kwan Yoke Meng over Joko. Amazing.
That's why the Thomas Cup is considered the most exciting and prestigious team badminton tournament!!!

bro,it'snot so much a maetter of EBF is rich or poor.let's assunme they can afford to get air tickets and dailiy expenses for 20 players , they prbobly know even if they qualify and get to compete in malysia, it will amoutn to nothign much.they'll gain nothing other than their players geining experience. thus the lack of motivation and the fact they didn't even play Andrew Smith(for whatever reasons).
but i can see their intintion if its to let thhe young players get experience even if they didn't qualify.maybe the curernt english players are just not good enuff.simple as that.

In the Pan Am qualifiers, they have reached the SF stage.

    TC: Gautemala (won group A) v Canada (2nd group B), USA (2nd group A) v Peru (won group B)

    UC: USA (won group X) v Mexico (2nd group Y), Peru (2nd group X) v Canada (won group Y)

Peru, as hosts, have done remarkably well, beating Canada 3-2 to win TC Group B.

Wow quite a number of úpsets' so far.
Didn't know that Guatemala had a decent badminton team and Peru beating Canada is quite surprising too.
But don't know why certain teams are not at full strength.
USA don't have Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan, Holland don't have Eric Pang and Dicky Palyama. I think there are a few other countries that don't have their strongest players too.
    Anybody know why?

    ^^On those queries..^^

Guatemala's TC squad has some pretty good & experienced players:
    Kevin Cordon & Pedro Yang
While Peru's TC squad has 1 experienced player:
    Rodrigo Pacheco

U.S.' T&UC squads decided to go with the youngsters this time around and not send the experienced Tony, Howard to play. Even if those 2 players went and U.S.' TC squad wins the PanAm regional, most likely they won't go far in the upcoming T&UC Final Rd. in M'sia.
Indeed. And both Peru's T&UC squads (TC will be a rematch from their group play) will battle it out in their respective Final Rd. for the right to go to M'sia!
