Which countries will advance to the Final Rd.

ok, thanks for confirming; i had a feeling abt that.
But looking at the list above, how come Mutatkar didn't get any pts whilst the rest of her teammates did? did she play at all? or they'll only give pts when a player plays?

For Barning/Muskens, you mean "last week's Austrian International.."

She must play in the team competition to get the points. And even if you do get points, the points may not increase your total. That's because your world ranking points consists of your 10 best tournaments, and from this 10, at most one can be from team tournaments. So, if you have more points from another team tournament, your latest points will not count.

Austrian International 2010 was completed last week, therefore all points for Austrian International 2009 were dropped from the rankings. Barning/Muskens got some points in 2009 and these points were removed this week.

Bolehians must face cold hard facts

THE Thomas Cup used to be one of the most prestigious tournaments and meant so much to Malaysian shuttlers and fans.
Preferences, however, have changed over the years, especially after badminton became an Olympic sport in 1992.

Any athlete will say that being an Olympic champion is the ultimate goal while the world championships also rank up there in terms of importance.

The Thomas Cup, however, remains a revered team competition and Malaysia have done extremely well by winning it five times and expectations rise to unexpected heights whenever it comes along.

This is exactly what will happen this year, especially as Malaysia is hosting the championships.

Having last won in 1992, Malaysians want the title again but lets face facts -- besides the reliable World No 1 Lee Chong Wei and the inconsistent doubles World No 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Malaysia have a depleted side and even reaching the semi-finals would be considered a success.

On current form, Malaysia's line-up will be Chong Wei, Wong Choong Hann and Hafiz Hashim occupying the singles while Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari will play second doubles behind Kien Keat-Boon Heong. Hafiz and Zakry-Fairuz are in wretched form and at 34, Choong Hann can only play a supporting role, and it is hard seeing Malaysia overcoming holders China for the title.

China will have Lin Dan, Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai in the singles and two-time world champions Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng and Xu Chen-Guo Zhendong in the doubles.

Even their reserves Chen Long (singles) and Zhang Nan-Chai Biao look solid as they can replace the regulars without much problems.

Chong Wei may capitalise on home ground advantage and upstage Lin Dan but none of the others have a chance of delivering.

In fact, even Indonesia and Denmark have better balance sides while South Korea, who are solid in doubles, could also make it tough for Malaysia.

All said, it will be a fine achievement if Malaysia make the semis while a final appearance would be a bonus.

And should they fail to do that, we mustn't consider it as the end of the world for the players can make amends by capturing a title in the World Championships in August.

Malaysian players have done better in individual events of late and having won the Thomas Cup before, they must target winning something that they haven't.

If they don't, then it would really mean the end of the world.

Guys read the thomas and uber cup rules and regulations carefully.
Men’s Team World Badminton Championship
This was stated way before the continental qualifiers were played out including how the countries would be ranked (total points of first 3 singles and top 2 doubles) and how the 12th qualifiers would be decided.
Dates were also explicity mentioned.
The main thing is the document has to be read as a whole document from the first para to the last not taking paras here and there and confusing the whole situation.
Congrats to Japan and India for being the 12th qualifiers for the Thomas and Uber Cup respectively!!
Let's look forward to the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals.
..yes, the ruling on how the 12th qualifiers would be decided was already stated in the BWF link. And yes, the date(s) were also explicitly mentioned.
However, imo, they were not clearly put or arranged in a more easily understandable wording, thus this mini confusion; thank goodness we've figured it out. After all, if they were put in a well and clearly explained wording, we wouldn't wait this long to finally figure everything out. Perhaps, you or anyone would already explained how it works, to us, well in advance before the start of the T&UC Prelims.
Btw, this is the correct link:

..i am looking at the numbers on the left side and right side. Mutatkar seems to be the only one without any new pts added.
- I assume the numbers on the left are taken from the February 4th ranking?
- Where did the added numbers on the right hand side come from? If from tourneys, which tourney? Mind giving us the details?
- How about the other pairs, did they compete in 10 tourneys?

Ok now everything has been settled. Japan and India have made it seedings completed think it's time we all start looking towards the Finals. Let me start the ball rolling by saying it'll be either China or Malaysia for the Thomas cup. The uber cup seems to be a direct fight between china and Korea. What do you guys think? Or maybe we should open a new forum.

It's pretty simple. The numbers on the left are from one week before the Mar 4th ranking, numbers on the right are from Mar 4th. The only tournament added is the Uber Cup prelim. Mutatkar was not involved in the prelim, therefore she got no points from it.

got it!..
