this is the array formula in excel to sum up the top 10 highest points {=SUM(LARGE(F3:AK3,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&MIN(10,COUNTA(F3:AK3))))))} sorry, not much experience in open office
Hey guys Sorry, for this mistake. It was a problem with the newly implemented database... Now it is fully fixed. Next point, GBR has in minimum 2 quota places, what doesn't mean that GBR has 2 extra places. (That's how I understand the qualifying rules: "The host NOC (Great Britain) is entitled to enter a minimum of two players") And finally there are 3 male and 3 female quota place which can fully determinend by the comitee, that's the reason why I used only 35 single quota places, 15 double places and 14 mixed places. (I don't expect that they use the Triparite quota places only for Mixed: would be 13...)
^^^^ demolidor, you're forgetting the 7800 points that are about to come falling off the total of Robertson/Wallwork coupled with the 4000+ points that chris/IMO are going to be picking up in denmark CA/IB #1 RB/GW #2
Yeah, don't know why it both translated and modified the formula. Will try it later ... It is a bit vague for sure (probably you are right) "HOST COUNTRY REPRESENTATION The host NOC (Great Britain) is entitled to enter a minimum of two players. If additional players qualify under the regulations, they may also be entered. "If two or more players from the host NOC (Great Britain) are not placed in qualifying positions from the BWF ranking list of 3 May 2012 then the entitlement of two players shall be completed by the qualification of an additional player or players from the BWF ranking list(s) nominated by the British Olympic Association. The player(s) qualifying for the host NOC will be the highest ranked player(s)/pair in the nominated BWF ranking list(s) of 3 May 2012, or if there is no host NOC players/pair in the nominated BWF ranking list, the NOC will decide the entries latest by 10 May 2012. " Since when does GBR1 = NR/JW??

Congratulations to Sho Sasaki . Sho Sasaki is only just next to Lee Chong Wei? Congratulations to Sho Sasaki. .
. If you look at the Top 10 Mens Singles player, these are the number of tournaments that they have played in the last 12 months; 19 tournaments * Boonsak PONSANA 17 tournaments * Tien Minh NGUYEN * Sho SASAKI 15 tournaments * Taufik HIDAYAT * CHEN Jin 14 tournaments * CHEN Long * DU Pengyu 13 tournaments * LIN Dan 11 tournaments * LEE Chong Wei * Peter Hoeg GADE Source (BWF Ranking as at 06-Oct-2011); http://bwfbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=14955 .
I've finally completed all tournaments from 2 May 2011 that included the minor ones as well. As expected not much changes at the top except in MS Tommy Sugiarto (9) replaced Taufik Hidayat (11) as INA's No 1. And Juliane Schenk moved up a few places to No 3. With the minor t'ments included a clearer pictures emerged for the other end of the spectrum for the free places; snapshot below shown the front runners. Currently Canada has 3 places - WS, WD and XD. USA has 1 place - MD Guatemala has 1 place - MS Australia has 4 places - MS, MD, WD and XD. New Zealand has 1 place - WS. South Africa has all the 5 places! Probably the only country apart from China has representives in all 5 events. Another radical change outside of the top 10 is POL, RUS and CAN MD1. Prety ridiculous a $15,000 Challenge tournament is worth 4000 points compared to 5000 for a $50,000 GP event (yet a 1500 point difference between an Int. Challenge and $5,000 Int. Series tournament @ 2500 points). The gap in prize money (relatively) between GP and GP Gold is also bigger than between GPG and SS yet the point differential between GPG and SS is bigger ... GP and GPG should get a points upgrade to maybe 6000 and 8000 .
those ranking points never made senses at all, just the way the players have to work on. only when i complied the results i realised that the 'Challenge' tournaments started with 256 MS and 8 rounds to win. well, they dont called it Challenge for nothing!
Only if you include the qualifying rounds (must say I hadn't really noticed the main was only R32 but was aware you need to win 3 to reach the main). Plus it's two days shorter overall only starting on the Thursdays ...
Australia has 4 places - MS, MD, WD and XD . This quite a pleasant surprise; Usually, New Zealand is a slight level higher than Australia. .
AUS's XD is at No 52 currently that they need to move up 2 places to secure qualification. watch this place.
some bad news guys. apparently, according to BWF ; "no more than two players/pairs from any one NOC can qualify through the Continental representation system".
. Good, I like it. Why? With so many walkovers given lately, I think BWF wants to prevent as many "No Matches" as possible. .
