thanks for the info, very important and I've almost missed it.

I was always wondering as only 2 pairs allowed for doubles why CHN still have players playing 2 events; now it’s all make sense. So, if Zhao Yunlei qualified for both WD and XD, CHN can have 4 WS in the draw! What about if Yu Yang qualified as well? 5 WS, that can’t be right.

And *** was "gender" (but you already gathered as much :D). So the singles qualifying rule still applies as normal, just the list will be filled from the bottom. So with those two examples, it only means two more entries in total allowed for WS (so 40 spots).

thanks for the clarification. why they have to make it so complicated. just let the best 32 or 64 to qualify, nice and simple.

It defeats the purpose of jockeying for position and boxing in or out players deemed in-their way.

Latest tables to include China Master 2011,

    the file is in: http://www.mediafire.com/?mf3pzz2rt9p31

It’s no secret that CHN would like to have 3 MS represented for the London 2012, for that CHN needed to have 3 players in the top 4 by next May. Li YongBo stated that it’s almost impossible to squeeze LCW out of the top 4 and he is now targeting PG, quite right so.

The latest table shown that PG is almost 10,000 ahead of CHN’s No 3 CL just before the Japan Open. As they are now both in the Semi of the 2011 Japan Open the maximum point’s difference will be about 3000 and CL is still way behind target.

In terms of stopping CHN to get the maximum MS in London 2012 it’s actually better for PG to win.

Will they follow the script? That’s the question.

    Hey guys

so, after having waited 3 month  I got the official informations.

There will be 38 single quota places at all, but if there is a player who is qualified in 2 disciplines, there will be an extra quota place in the Single event of the same gender. (As it was posted before)

    Tournament modus:
First round will be group play, followed by group stage. The groups will be determined using the system here. (http://www.bwfbadminton.com/file_download.aspx?id=22472 3.3.3.2)

Due to (propably) few extra quota places in Men's event, there will exist groups with only one player, so that LCW and LD would be directly qualified for knock out stage.

This group system isn't really balanced for under 48 players, so that there may be groups with one (e.g. Top 2), with two (e.g. BWF 3-4) and three players.

    Regards

    Updated with Japan Open.
    in: http://www.mediafire.com/?mf3pzz2rt9p31

Unbelievably, there is only around 1500 points between the top 5 MS, and 21 points between the top 2. But, it’s a little bit misleading as Sasaki at No 2 played 9 tournaments as to LCW’s 5, the least among the top 10. Again, for China to have 3 representatives the main target is to ‘squeeze’ (LYB’s word) P Gade out of the top 4 and Chen Long is still almost 7000 behind with both played in 6 tournaments.

    In terms of maximum number of qualification;
MS - only China managed 2 in LD and CJ,
WS - both China and Taipei have 2,
MD - both Korea and Indonesia have 2 with Japan comes close at No 8 and No 9,
WD - China and Japan got 2 with Korea chasing with No 2 and No 9,
XD - Again China and Taipei both have 2.

    Useful script. Thanks
    But, I have question.

Why are qualified names (marked on either yellow or green) less than 16 for double in this week (ranking 30/9)?
I count there is only 14 for XD, 15 for WD

How do I see who is qualified at the current standings? Also you are missing a lot of tournaments ...

Yes I just noticed as well. Must've crept in an old error again. I see CAN1 is getting the Continental spot again eventhough USA1 is already in qualifying position ... Adcock/Ellis should be yellow for homenation and CAN1 yellow should go to the next eligible: Ivanov/Sozonov closely followed by Cwalina/Logosz and Bosch/Ridder ... and CAN1 (Liu/Ng)

Or GBR1 MD qualify on merit and RUS1 are bumped back out and the homenation spot more likely goes to their singles players ... oh wait only 15 MD yellows atm so:

    MD: GBR1 in, RUS1 in; CAN1 out
XD: RUS1 and HKG1 are in atm
WD: GER1 should be in I think, very closely followed by RSA (South Africa if they make the top 50 will get the Continental spot and bump GER1 out) or both out if GB claims their host spot since MS&WS GBR1 qualify on merit

thanks Alan, great job. Anyhow, I don't think the average makeing sense at all. Think about this example, if LCW participated any tournaments lower than SS, even he won the title without any loss, he would downgrade his average.

It'd better provide the Best 3, 4, 5 totals, that's the best way to show the strength.

Perhaps they will claim another XD spot as well: GBR2.

I guess it doesn't work in Open Office? As explained elsewhere your 10 best results in the last 52 weeks count for your ranking. Since the qualifying period is only a few months underway it isn't likely everyone has 10 already or even the same number. You could take three as a number to total but what if someone down below only has two so far? Best three could be with the luck of the draw and end up with above normal result when those discarded are more representative ...
If LCW mixed GPG's and won them all and someone else lost in 10 (P)SS finals likely (haven't checked the points awarded) the other person would be ranked above in the real ranking so why leave those results out if they do actually count if LCW doesn't score higher in 10 other tournaments?

no, havent got that function yet, too early.
I've included all the SS and GP and GPG that most of the top players may be there. so, for players qualified from merit that the ranking should be correct.

there is only 16 places available for doubles. with the places reseverd for Africa, America etc you needed to to top 12 to be sure.

At the moment GB are at 14 and 15, they will be lucky to get 1 in. otherwise they need to use their wild card to do so.

I agree that 'average' doesn't means much at the moment, even less when they reach the minimum of 10. it's just for reference.
i think the points from the 11th highest would be useful as that will give an indication if the next tournament can gain more points or not.

GB has a godgiven right for two spots in addition of those who qualify on merit. GBR MS1, WS1, XD1, MD1 all qualify on merit at the moment. Africa & Ocenia are only in if they are in the top 50 which at #57 & 99 they are not, America is in already and accounted for with CAN1. That leaves two spots for GBR2 and RUS1 ... but that is based on the current WR, not the ranking since the start of the qualifying period. Can't read your Excel file 100% with Open Office ... (Lotus Symphony) but as I mentioned there a lot of tournaments missing in your file so those standing can't possible be accurate.

    Is this correct? =SOM(GROOTSTE(F3:AK3;RIJ(INDIRECT("1:"&MIN(10;AANTAL2(F3:AK3))))))
