Very brilliant performance by Lakshya Sen in the finals today. Beating the current world champion Loh K Y in a tight encounter is a fantastic achievement. Keep it up, Lakshya! And Congratulations!
https://www.espn.in/badminton/story...ld-champion-loh-kean-yew-win-india-open-debut 'You can win today': How coach's message spurred Lakshya Sen to beat world champion Excerpts: On the Sunday of the India Open final, Lakshya Sen woke up to a lengthy text message from coach Vimal Kumar. It detailed game tactics he should follow, pitfalls he should avoid and a line at the end that summed up belief: 'You can beat him today'. Loh came into the final without having to pick up his racket in the semis after his opponent Brian Yang withdraw. The Indian had his plans laid out neatly: vary pace, rob Loh of his smashes, use cross slices, half and hard smashes from the forehand side, counter smashes finding their way back with attacking tosses and prepare for net rushes.
LAKSHYA SEN POST MATCH INTERVIEW “I’ve started the year with a win, and that too at home, so it feels good,” said Sen. “Today was a crucial first game. I was leading by a few points and then he caught up and I’m happy I pulled it out. I came with high expectations of myself. After the World Championships I didn’t have a lot of practice, I trained for a week before coming here but I had the rhythm from the beginning. I played well in the quarterfinals and semifinals and in the final I was much more confident.”
He has learnt how to change the pace of the rally. I'm glad to see him perform like this. Patient rallies and change of pace etc. The things I wanted him to improve on. Tomorrow he'll play most probably against Viktor. If he stretches the match to 3 games, I'll be happy. @Cunning Linguist @mohans @Nine Tailed Fox @j4ckie @Sumanth99 @badmuse , have you guys noticed any change ? Or you want to throw some light on your observations regarding Lakshya getting matured gameplay wise ? Just checked his upcoming tournaments will be All England, Swiss Open, Korean Open (super 500). He'll be skipping Orleans Masters (100) and Korean Masters (300). Cautious and wise approach taken by management. I wish to see him perform well in these tournaments.
I I only saw few points yesterday, I think felt he learnt to choose wisely when to smash after making opponent move out of position, looks like he got good coach now. He has matured to a decent level but not like peak KM/LD/LCW. Good have someone who we can pin hopes on.
To reach peak KM,LD,LCW one has to become a highly disciplined monk. Expecting him to reach at that level will require some more years provided he improves on and on.
From 16-19 to winning the decider, oof what a display by Lakshya. Today he conquered his Achilles heel of giving unnecessary points at crucial juncture of the match like we've seen in Nov Dec. Really elated to see this type of attitude by Lakshya. Also noticed, he didn't use his smashes much. Played smartly. First game I would say Axelsen switch was off, in second game it was of Lakshya's. Third Game, don't know what happened suddenly to both of them. Tomorrow it's KV vs LS, familiar foes. Excited.
Happy for you guys @Sundis , @Baddie lover , @Sumanth99 (and others ). Great kid, very supportable (and very good, of course).
I'll say the reverse now, Priyanshu, KS should move to PPBA and train with this new coach, LS, Meiraba.
Lakshya Sen is the favorite to win tomorrows final unless he is too tired to keep his speed up, then Kunlavut should win because he seems able to rally forever in a lower pace.
I will watch Lin Sen in the final today to make more astute prophecy regarding Sen's future but obviously from the perspective of pure defense, he has been no joke in the past. And with these results without having watched him this week, it looks like something must have beefed up to the extreme in his defense.
