It's the conflicting versions of what it is like. The entry form asks if you are a "bona-fide amateur" but then goes on to ask if you play county etc. I don't know many amateurs that play county even in Scotland Anyway I am just play in a club in Glasgow, nothing special, don't even make the team and I think the team plays level 3 in the league and that's not even the county league Anyway It'll be good for a wee break and to get to see some of the posters, are you taking part this year player?
Cornwall is very low standard, many cornwall, devon players from bottom icc division and juniors, vets, club players even lower, you do get the odd star like ian sullivan last year but he was retired by then
And on that note I have bought my train tickets and booked a room in some small B&B, I have begun my training regime by putting on a stone for good measure and look forward to dragging it round the court in Cornwall (if it's still there) DLP what is ICC, county? I can hit a clear so may be in with a chance of not looking a fool (wahey), now 2 in a row is a different matter Matt are you still playing the Hearts this weekend coming? How did the draw go?
Sorry, but I do not agree with DLP's comments. We DO get good quality players in the Cornwall and whilst there are a few players that use it as a "warm up" for the start of the season and ahead of the County restricted the standard is quite high. I rather get the impression from DLP that he thinks it is a poor tournament in which I would strongly disagree and I daresay will most of the "regular" entrants from across the Country. A lot of hard work goes into organising and running this annual event and it is certainly not very encouraging to hear comments like that. Dill - thanks for your entry form. Presumably the other guys who have said they intend entering will get their entry forms to me by the closing date???? Linda
Linda, I'm sure DLP who is a regular at your tournament didi not mean it like that. Each player has perspective based upon his level of play and assesses the playing level from that, if a national level player was to turn up at my club night he would roll about laughing watching us play whereas if I turned up to a national player coaching session I would almost certainly feel out of my depth although would join in irrespective of the assumed outcome. As the Open is categorised as a level C ciruit then I would assume the standard is lower than the Challengers and Elite tours. As for the hard work that goes in - I do not doubt you for a single minute and know what it takes to organise events and i'm sure we all respect you for what you are doing this year and in fact in previous years which make your event a success. For any more proof, why is a Scot travelling 10 hours on a train to get two game in each day? Would I not have been better off saving my money and taking my kiddies session on the Saturday and my regular club nights on Sunday and Monday?
Mine is on it's way, although it is in the hands of the Royal Mail whether it gets there on time or not.
Linda I apologise , I do not mean to give the impression that it is a poor tournament, more to encourage these players who are not sure if they are of high enough standard. Certainly compared with a "C" event like Oxford / Middlesex where you often get top 15 players and pairs the cornwall is somewhat easier but it is an excellent well run event and has the rare bonus of a plate event. If all the "C" events were like cornwall and offered plate events i am sure the tournament circuit would see much better entries.
22nd Duchy of Cornwall Open Hi Neil, Yes, your entry arrived safely today thank you. Would you prefer me to text you your anticipated start time once it has been ascertained instead of replying by post as you are likely to be on holiday?
Well remembered, now instead of putting on weight I want to lose it again Linda, did all the others enter?
Wow, what service. up here you get a letter the day before the bonanzas start telling you your application has been received kind of puts it in perspective
You can make it up by getting me a huge signed glossy photo of Gail Good luck for the Hearts this weekend, keep on truckin
Steve; Sunny, are you guys still playing in the doubles or is Sunny out due to some nasty shin splint pain?
