he's partnered with zhao tingting, if he competes in XD.
nobody knows for sure, but we're guessing its li yongbo's experiments to mix things up to see how things work out prior to sorting out teams that need to be qualified for OG2008.

Didn't Gao Ling pair up with Zheng Bo for a few touranments in late 2001 and early 2002?

Remember the time when China was preparing for the 2002 Thomas Cup? They had their Men's doubles players secluded to a special training place. Zhang Jun was separated from Gao Ling so that he can focus on Men's Doubles Training. Gao Ling played mixed somebody else in tournaments. I think it was Zheng Bo who played with her. Can someone verify on that?

When Thomas Cup was over, Zhang Jun paired up with Gao again. At first, Gao Ling didn't feel comfortable playing with him at all, as it has been so long since she has practised with him that they had lots of trouble communicating with each other. It took them a few tournaments before they started performing better.

I'll try to find sites that indicates whether Gao has indeed played mixed with Zhen back in 2001 or 2002.

OK. I'm just looking at the historic IBF rankings. When I check the April 11 2002 mixed rankings, I see that Gao Ling has played mixed with Yang Sang, but as of now, I haven't found any evidence that indicates Gao Ling has played mixed with Zheng Bo during the period when Zhang Jun was in special MD training. But if I remember the ranking rules correctly, a pair needs to play at least 2 tournaments in order to be listed on the ranking list. If Gao has only played one tournament with Zhen during 2002, ther names won't appear on the ranking list.

I'll do a bit more research (but the new IBF website seems to be so slow) and see whether I can indeed confirm that Zheng and Gao have played mixed with each other before.

looks like I made a mistake

    Hi,

I think I made a mistake. After checking the previous world records, I might have confused Yang Sang with Zheng Bo. Gao Ling did play mixed with Yang Sang before in touranments, but probably not with Zheng Bo. I believe you're right that the first time Zheng Bo played with Gao Ling is during the 2006 Asian Games. My bad :)

indeed the hottest pairs in the pro circuit are undeniably ZB/GL and KKK/TBH.
These two "scratch" pairs brought together by somewhat unforeseen circumstances are simply dominating all those that have had the misfortune of being matched against them.

Don't forget the great Ge Fei whom I think is in the same league as Gao Ling and Ra Kyung Min if not better. Ge Fei is also very sweet! :) :) :)

Yes, Ge Fei/Ge Jun were the dominant pairs in the nineties. They won 2 Olympics in 1996 and 2000 and won other numerous championships between 1994 and 2000. In actual fact they were unbeaten for four and a half years until compatriots Yang Wei and Huan Nanyan upset them at Japan Open in April 2000. I believe no other pairs have ever come close to their unbeaten run of 4.5 years!!!

Ge Fei also formed lethal partnership with Liu Yong in Mixed Doubles and they were won All-England and World Championship(I think).

hey Tjun Tjun. nice to meet a badminton fan like you who kept interest in badminton since decades ago. we had watch many players come and many players go. Now, China still has dominant womens doubles. No country can snatch the title away from China even till now. Once in a while, China might lose but still China is very dominant in the woman's event.
