Oh. Makes sense for people having 88d to avoid it and wait for z version ... But what surprises me is that I can't seem to find a single review anywhere- not here, not on YouTube . Only LCW has given his feedback until now .
There are plenty of reviews over at badmintoncn. Let me summarize for you. Either it is basically the same racquet as 88D, or it is stiffer, harder to use than zf2. I'm not sure if these people are even at a decent level to judge this racquet because to me the 88D and zf2 feel completely different. Also, when I held the racquet and had some dry swings, it definitely felt very similar to the 88D, nothing like a zf2. I think we have 99 demo racquets so I might give it a go and post a quick impression. All I can say for now about the 99 is that upon flexing the shaft manually, it is far more flexible than the 88D. Secondly, when flexing, it is noticeable how the head starts to flex more (i.e. the flex point moves towards the head) whereas closer to the handle it is stiffer. I feel like this is obviously due to the full namd frame. As for how it plays, well, hopefully someone who bought it and strung it at a reasonable tension can post a quick review.
I brought my 3U 88S and 88D to restring at my favourite shop... I entered the shop... stringer was busy on the phone... eh there i saw Astrox 99 hanging on the wall. Took it.. compared with my stringless 88D. Looks like another 88D in orange.... I gave it a dry swing... The head weight is ... well suited for singles. Astrox 99 potential buyers need to hit the gym.
Interesting feedback from @llrr and @Junye That flexibility is what I require ... but if someone using the AX88D is saying it is heavy then ...................................................
Do we even know if there is an Astrox Z___? I don't think we will see another Z__ for at least another year, because LCW and Kento Momota are the endorsers of the 99, and it would be weird/unusual for a company to change the endorsement so soon for a product cycle.
Surely there'll be a compact frame AX. They need that for marketing, so people can buy another astrox.
Oh yes for sure there will be a Z . Astrox being such a famous series and Z version being so popular and people earns "reputation" by using them, Yonex knows they will tons of income if they don't bring one down. I am honestly expecting one by next BWF World Championships.
Just bought the AX 99 4U and am really surprised that it feels almost as head heavy as my old zf2 3U and TK9000 3U. Best part is it feels overall heavier and more head heavy than the AX 88 3U that I got recently as well, its definitely a sledgehammer like what Ch1k0 has said earlier. Stiffness and feel is almost identical to AX 88 and more forgiving than the zf2.
Which AX88 are you referring to? I've got a different feedback from a guy on my gram. He is like a racket collector or something. He told me that the AX99 is the same as the AX88D.
Essentially the AX 99 is simply a more beefier version of the AX 88D, however i was kinda surprised that the AX99 4U actually felt heavier and more head heavy than the AX88D 3U and some of my friends have also given the same feedback when they tried both sticks.
The extra weight can be unwieldly to some, my advice is to try first before you buy the AX99 otherwise the AX88D is good enuf for most ppl. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
Too late. Mine's already being scrutinized by US customs to make sure there is no coke hidden inside or something
Then i wish you all the best with your new AX99 and may u smash your opponents into oblivion! Enjoy your new stick! Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
