Nice solution Neil, I also agree with you. I just had some thoughts... Some pills has to be taken as a whole, in one piece, because they have to dissolve slowly and therefore it is forbidden to grind them... Also, the grinded pills for the next day could maybe oxidize or spoile, that's why they are sealed so hermetically... And when you grind things you always leave some of the material on the spoon and on the paper you would grind on or on the weight when you would do the splitting of the powder in a half, so you wouldn't take exactly prescribed dose... Considering this, it would be dangerous to risk such serious side effects mentioned in the puzzle description... Ok, I complicate, I know, but I felt that I have to write something more than just I agree with you to...
realistically, I would throw them both out. This is because wats is better, side effects that may kill you, or $300...I pick 300 USD.....obviously. However, If you must, other than grinding the pills you can use the rest of the bottle over time, setting aside these 3, until you have 1 A pill left, and these 3. THen you have 1 known A, and 3 unknown pills. you know that 1 is an A and 2 are Bs. Drive to the hospital. take the known A, and pick a random pill...you have a 2/3 chance of getting the right one, if you get the wrong ones, and side effects occur, rush in the hospital doors. well, seriously, the only way it to grind it, but there is no uniform perfect distribution...how about dissolving them in water and drinking half of it..... or just throw them out....after all, your health IS worth $300
I think Neil probably got the most logical answer to the question. I will try something different then: Hold the daily intake till midnight, at the stroke of 12, take out another pill from Bottle A, swallow all the 4 pills. Technically it still fulfills the requirement of 1 pill each per 'day'. I hope Angela will not deduct any point for this silly answer!
actually, instead of grinding them up, you could add another A, then cut them all in half take 4 half-pills (making sure you do not take both halves of any pill)
Answers ClOSED for Question 25th -10th/10/07 : Pills Puzzler ANSWERS : CUT EACH OF THE THREE PILLS IN HALF, AND CAREFULLY SEPARATE THEM INTO TWO PILES, WITH HALF OF EACH PILL IN EACH PILE. You do not know which pill is which, but you are 100% sure that each of the two piles now;contains two halves of pill B and half of pill A. Now go back into the pill A box, take out a pill, cut it in half, and add one half to each stack. Now you have two stacks, each one containing two halves of pill A, and two halves of pill B. Take one stack of pills, today, and save the second stack for tomorrow. And the problem is solved Cheers !

yup yup. Onetoughbirdie didnt go play badminton tonite so he can make that post As u can see, that lucky badminotn is still underpaid when compared to those 'pretty public relations officers' --- Brunei Investment Authority, which reports to the Sultan, include a 50-page list of monetary gifts to hundreds of those lucky enough to be the beneficiaries of the Sultan's largesse. The total bill was $40 billion. The gifts included $2,570,050 for masseuses and acupuncturists; $14,955,000 for a house supervisor in Singapore and $13,500,000 for a second house supervisor; $2,580,350 for a badminton coach; $12,000,000 for each of his five public relations officers listed as Yoya, Prall, Vicky, Shelly and Janet. Desmond Browne, QC, the British barrister, also appears on the gift list in the case, which will end with the biggest legal bill in British history of about $408 million. He was given $5000.
