it's not unreasonable to say chen long might be past his peak. always having some sort of injury is part of it. when people constantly claim a player (any player) would've won if not for an injury has a misunderstanding of athletic development. when nagging injuries occur regularly the peak is over. it's rare for a badminton athlete to play at peak performance for more than 3 years. fans are spoiled by watching lin dan & lcw. they are out-liars.
Hopefully Chen long get back to his form in the Olympics soon.. his performance in world champs and Denmark open is absolutely horrendous.. seems like he is dreaming or lost focus... His consistency is way below lin Dan and lcw
Chen Long, The Dragon, is in hibernation since the Rio Olympics, part injury ,part something else. I hope he gets married with Wang Shixian and let marital bliss lift and inspire him again. I can't believe in the match with LHI, he was practically playing his opponent's game of rallying stroke play, none of his superb attacking and defensive abilities that characterize his quintessential style.
You don't seem to realize that his ability to anticipate LHI's net play and pounce on it would make his opponent wary and lift a bit more, the two net faults stymied that and rattled him as well. He wouldn't protest it so much if it's not disputable, knowing Chen Long. Never mind,it's all water under the bridge now. Like I 've said he has only 9 tournaments counting to his current WR6, any ranking points he earns in Europe may hopefully raised him to top 4 and allow him to avoid meeting the top seeds, esp VA, LCW, LD earlier.
