While Feng Yun Just manage to achieve one single titles which is Swiss Open in their 1st year of making a remarks on international badminton arena.. KKK/TBH already got 5 titles in their 1st year of partnership. That's a marvelous achievement for a newly forge pair...

You have so much excuses then....also Lily/.nova lost in the past because they were not feeling well too....this is bunch of BS...if GL thinks she is not fit to play 2 events,,then stop playing one of them...CHN has so many WD pairs...

Lost is lost...period....LYB did not use the excuses when CHN XD lost to INA...

H2H is 3-2 for GL/ZB

Zheng / Gao was extremely exhausted in the final. Don't forget, they won the encounter in Istora Senayan Jakarta, the most terrific place for any foreigner players / pairs. even in the 2nd set, they won it quite easily 21-12

YES, KKK/TBH are impressive...but...they are affected by their recent slump

So what? Two wins so far against Zheng/Gao are by no means an easy feat

I still remember one of those days the KOREAN choose to skip some tournaments before the OG after their players earn enough ranking points to qualify..

then, most of their players was seeded low & not even get seeded in the OG.. However, they manage to surprise the mighty Chinse by taking the Doubles title over frm them !
They are one fine example to prove that a players could win as many SS/Tournaments as they can but when it comes for the honour of their country in Olympics, the KOREAN simply shows who's mettle !

this is totally unrelated - no one skipped anything this time.
Rankings are important for qualification and seedings. No doubt. But as far as legacy... winning BIG tournaments are more important!

Let's test this:
Who was the #1 ranked MS player when Hendrawan won the 2001 World Championship?
Who was the #2 ranked MS player when Peter Rasmussen won the 2003 World Championship?
Who was the #3 ranked MS player when Taufik Hidayat won the 2004 Olympics?
Who was the #4 ranked MD pair when Tony Gunawan-Howard Bach won the 2005 World Championship?
Who was the #5 ranked MD pair when Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng won the 2006 World Championship?

I would have to look up the historical records [long and hard] for the rankings, but it shows that rankings leave less legacy than becoming the winner of BIG tournaments.

hm... i promise i havent looked up the rankings and historical records...
#1 ranked player? Roslin. I remember he lost to a HKG player in round 2 and caused a big hoo ha.
#2 Peter Rasmussen won the 1997 WC, totally pwning Sun Jun in Tokyo, not the 2003. 2003 was won by Xia Xuanze in an epic 3 game battle against WCH in Birmingham which saw WCH's stamina fading in the 3rd game... get your facts correct before quizzing me :P
#3 ranked player? if im not wrong it was Bao who dissapointingly lost to the lower seeded Lee Chong Wei in the QF or the SF...
#4 ranked player? I think it was Luluk/Alvent who suprisingly lost to Tony and Bach when everyone never gave them a chance. It was a straight game match i think...
#5 ranked player? this is stretching my memory a bit far... lemme guess: Anthony and Robert...

correct?

Err...Fu/Cai have been out since 2003...naturally they would have a better record than Kido/Hendra.

As for Zheng/Gao, I am SURE that Nova/Butet HAVE A BETTER RECORD than them in terms of winning international tourneys

Nova/Butet are TWICE WORLD CHAMPIONS, with close to a dozen titles!

Exactly, badMania! It is not very fair to compare Lily-Nova's record against Gao Ling-Zheng Bo because Lily-Nova has been around longer. And they have won tons of tournaments... Too lopsided in favor of Lily-Nova... :p

EVEN in terms of rankings, Lily-Nova was the #1 pair on Earth for many many many more weeks than GL-ZB who just became the #1 pair recently... Not fair lah... Lily-Nova are a solid established XD pair... Even in terms of amount of time it took for the then newly established pair [Lily-Nova] in 2005 to become World Champions were impressive.

Well I would not be honest if I said I wouldn't want to see Kido-Hendra and Lily-Nova win some Superseries tournament ....and wait until the Olympics to win again... Hahaha...

Ok, fine for those who think INA is not a badminton powerhouse, fine... It is better to be underestimated than overestimated. And, as Confucius said, "People will always have opinions about you... it is more important to internalize it and consider whether those opinions are appropriate or not..."

I am content to know we are not far behind China in many categories [except WS]... In MS, MD, WD, and XD on any given day, they can beat our players, we can beat theirs. Let's perform well in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup shall we... I hope we can show the rest of the world INA badminton at our best in 2008...

We are the country that won the Thomas Cup 13 times [more than any other country on Earth] and Uber Cup 3 times [more than Denmark, Malaysia, etc.]!
We are the country that produced so many MS World Champions [Rudy, Icuk, Joko, Haryanto Arby, Hendrawan, Taufik] and MD World Champions [Tjun-Tjun-Johan, Christian-Ade, Candra-Sigit, Ricky-Rexy, Tony-Halim, Kido-Hendra, etc.]... We are proud of our badminton records, history, and accomplishments... Let's make more history!

CHINA:
THOMAS CUP : 6 titles
UBER CUP : 10 titles
SUDIRMAN CUP : 6 titles
THE MOST DOMINANT COUNTRY IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS & OLYMPICS HISTORY!!!:D:D:D

i dont think anyone would beg to differ!

Well.. Lets see how the KOREAN will do with it this time around !

i think since the retirement of korean greats such as Kim Dong Moon, Lee Dong Soo, Ha Tae Kwan, Yoo Yong Soo, korean MD has weakened

all correct - see, people do remember :P

Correct!

Oh, you got my trap correctly. Good! I was just testing people's memory about who won the BIG tournaments. ;) I wasn't quizzing you personally, vching. That post clearly was not for you individually. I am already convinced that you like rankings a lot. :p That's fine. That's your right.

Most people just don't consider rankings as the BIG lasting legacy... :p

HISTORY IS THE PAST ... BADMINTON are actually in danger of losing its statue in Olympic Games if One single country keeps on dominating on it.. Might be in future, BadMad Fans will only have to see some classic games between top players in SS finals or etc ..

Their MD are weakened for some times..But with the emergence of JJS/LYD & LJJ/HJM . They are simply no pushover... I predict this time when most of the fans guess the OG MD gold was between Feng Yun; MK/HS & KKK/TBH.. The KOREAN will make another big surprise there !

Surely between 2003-2007, China is the most dominant. ;)
In the 20th century, no! Please compare... ;) Go ahead!

oh whatever - if you want me to list the seeds - also can :
#2 seed in 2003 was Kenneth Jonassen i think... Chen Hong was top seed

but this is not my point - my point is that winning one WC isn't worth as much a consistant performance in many many tournaments. WC is just one tournament, and its one overrated one too!

no one thinks taht they are a pushover... but compared to their previous strength, they are still not there yet
