    SEMIFINALS (1:00 pm local) => https://bwf.tournamentsoftware.com/tournament/ef5de126-c8e6-4b61-b575-9a3e41b50f83/matches/20230429

Loh KY notches his first ever win against Lee CY in 4 meetings in two straight 21-19 games to reach the semifinal where he faces Lu GZ who also notches his first ever win against Naraoka in 4 meetings fairly comfortably 21-19 21-9. Ginting survives three match points against All England champion Li SF to eventually win in a grueling 88-minute battle. He now faces Tsuneyama who had a much shorter semifinal with Prannoy retiring in the second game.

As expected, top 4 seeds in WS proceed to SF and will battle it out in a repeat of the Malaysia Open matchups: Yamaguchi vs Tai TY and An SY vs Chen YF. An SY won her last meeting against Chen YF in the thrilling three-game All England final while Yamaguchi won her last encounter with Tai TY in a more comfortable straight-game Malaysia Open semifinal.

Flashes of yesteryears in MD as Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions Lee/Wang reach the semifinal, beating Liang/Wang in three games, 21-8 in the third, and 2021 World Champions Hoki/Kobayashi beat Fikri/Maulana in straight games. Hoki/Kobayashi now face Ong/Teo with whom they have a favorable 7-1 H2H while Lee/Wang face Shetty/Rankireddy who beat Ahsan/Setiawan 21-11 21-12.

Similarly, WD shows flashes of yesteryears as JPN has two semifinalists in veterans Fukushima/Hirota who beat Chen/Jia in straight games and Matsumoto/Nagahara who did the same against Kim/Jeong. They now face Kititharakul/Prajongjai and Baek/Lee respectively.

Zheng/Huang beat Jordan/Oktavianti in straight games to reach semifinal where they face Goh/Lai who had to fend off much stiffer opposition in Rivaldy/Mentari. Swiss Open champions Jiang/Wei eke out a win against their TPE opponents and face Ferdinansyah/Widjaja who also had a three-game match against IND qualifiers Kapoor/Reddy.

So this Championship cannot afford streaming and commentators as well?
Is this a no prize money, no points Championship?

A bit late but I watched the XD matches and Toh is quite good.

It might be worth for Malaysia to try the Korean style and mix players from different disciplines. Most of the Korean MD also plays XD. It's not that easy to find a world class player for each discipline, countries like China have a larger population pool so they can do it,but small countries like Malaysia don't.

Might be worth to try out Pearly/Toh,Man/Toh or Tee/Toh at the team tournaments as an experiment. Not saying that it would lead to better results than the current combinations but it never hurts to try, especially in a low stakes match. It also acts as an insurance because the 3 combinations I mentioned, the players are all closer in age and have the same level of play. So it's good to keep these combinations around because the other players are a bit older and they may lose their sharpness before their partners do. Which is why I don't really favour large age gap partners in doubles. At least from what I see most of the doubles pairs in China and Indonesia are all around the same age.

WS : The usual suspects. Looks like this line up is the norm for the next couple of years. Whoever in good form takes the title.

MD : Hope MAS pair can overcome JPN pair and progresses to take the title.

WD : Not easy to beat Chen/Jia. A new winner would be nice.

XD : Should be curtains for Goh/Lai. I can't see them beating Huang/Zheng and they are always the favourites.

It's astonishing that a Super 1000 equivalent tournament has worse streaming coverage than most Super 100 tournaments. Shame on Badminton Asia

The points seems moot as most players are prioritizing sudirman cup in addition with lack of management from the organizers, this was juz a disaster

Why would players wanna lose points in this tournament as it offers 12000 points as whole when only asian players are playing.
And also offers prize money with approx. $30000 dollars for singles and doubles winners. I would ask players to handle the today's tournament than thinking of future tournament.

Not related to this tournament, but related to Badminton Asia.. I am seeing 1st time, WS players from Saudi Arabia!. are given entry in Mexico IC. Good for Badminton, getting popular in many countries...many country players are coming..

Badminton Asia/Brands(Yonex, Victor..) can do more marketing in West Asia, Africa.. In-way it is good that this tournament is happening in Dubai now.. Conduct some other tournaments in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia..Particularly BWF can try to get sponsor from Saudi (Saudi Aramco , much bigger than Petronas)!! & conduct tournament in Saudi if permitted.

With Yuta currently injured and Dechapol/Sapsiree's unsteady performance, who will be able to stop the mighty Siwei/Yaqiong?

Besides Indonesian MD, this Malaysian MD is definitely a pair that I always support.
For some reason, they always look cheerful and also full of friendship with MD's from other countries.
Good luck for tomorrow's finals Ong/Teo.
