2016 XiamenAir AUSTRALIAN Open Superseries : Qualifying & R/32 (7th & 8th June)

When many people keep telling about the need of winning Olympic Gold to somehow prove greatness, is it not sounding like a broken record?

Same question, same answer. I guess. I was getting consistent. :D

It's a convoluted question requiring long answer.

Well, haters will be haters. Sometimes, just leave them be.

I have no intention to convince the haters, so to speak. My original intention on this thread is do the voluntary translation for the news being reported in Chinese in the local newspaper, Sin Chew Daily. Sin Chew Daily happens to be the largest newspaper in Malaysia, despite the fact it is published in Chinese while the most widely spoken language in Malaysia is Malay/English mixed language, i.e. neither proper Malay nor proper English.

It's more detailed compared with what was being reported on the The Stars. It just so happened that LCW's coach as well as the Technical Director of BAM were commenting on LCW's performance lately on that news report. I can't help but to somehow include the previous statements posted by others as well as my take on their statements.

Goh Jin Wei defeated Michelle Li convincingly, indicating that she is around top 20 caliber.
I'm not sure a single match or tournament is enough to prove Goh Jin Wei's rank. She needs to keep on training to reach the top level as well as maintain consistency to reach higher rank. Both top performance and consistency matter when it comes to world ranking.

But I would like to encourage Goh to keep working hard. She is still young and has quite some time left in her career. But it requires great determination.

Not proof, but indication.
Plus taking into consideration past victories.

Jojo lost straight-sets to 2013 World Junior Champion, Heo Kwang Hee. Consistency is the key problem for the youngsters, Jonatan Christie stole the limelight last week when he stunned Lin Dan also almost eliminated Chen Long and Jan O Jorgensen but he's often troubled by lower-ranked players.

Other than consistency of the trio, there is something about these youngsters (Wang Tzu Wei, Jeon Hyok Jin, Heo Kwang Hee and Sameer Verma joined the list recently), might be they perform better against INA Trio to prove that they are as talented, or they just found the Kryptonite to beat them.

We should see more of them in the next two or three years.

After suffered second round losing at last week homeground SS Premier, Sony Dwi Kuncoro stuns China number three, Tian Houwei, 21-16 and lopsided second game, 21-12.

Houwei lost to SDK 16-21, 12-21. Another just concluded INA SSP semifinalist gone, after Ihsan lost to Sameer Verma.
There are 2 seeded MS players left in the competion. CTC and CL.

What a surprise. Can he repeat his success as he did in Singapore Open?

My favourite WD pair the lanky Puttita and Sapsiree are battling out now with the vivacious Gronya and her partner Mapasa of Australia.Happy to note that the Thai pair has won the first set.

.

Even the players themselves acknowledge Olympic as the ultimate title. If Malaysian already content with LCW without any major titles, you think they would spend so much money on Frost and Hendrawan? If you think LCW's already great without the titles, so be it but it won't convince a lot of us who will think he's an under achiever compared to his archrivals who played the same era like LD, CL or the retired TH. Sorry for sounding like an old record but we won't be needing any of this discussion without LCW having proven anything not for the fans but more for himself :D

Suit yourself. As long as you are happy. By your logic, Olympic Champion should have protected ranking as World NO 1. Does it make sense? The spirit of sport is to win ONLY at Olympics or World Championships.

Unfortunately, according to current rules, if you don't make it to top 28, you can't play in the main round of SSP/SS outright, despite getting a (Gold/Silver/Bronze) medal on World Championships or Olympic Games. That's how LCW lost in the qualifying round of Korea Open last year.

Yes, many Malaysians hope for LCW bring back a gold medal as he is the ONLY hope to get a gold medal from any sport from Olympics. Many of them recognize that he IS the living legend who won 43 Superseries titles, reached 94 career finals, win 11 Malaysia Open, 6 Indonesia Open... The list goes on.

In fact, I first knew about the achievement from LCW from Gill Clark, the famous commentator for BWF top-tier tournaments from UK.

For all it matters, more like BWF and all the world players logic rather than mine. You could turn to page one of this thread on Carolina Marin's quote on her twitter about Olympics or how everyone else's gearing up towards it. That's why I'm asking the question, if BAM thinks it's unnecessary (to win Olympics gold), would they spend a lot money on Frost and Hendrawan on LCW? It's just that simple :D
