OK so let me clarify what happens in the INA VS KOR match today I got it from PBSI website: http://pb-pbsi.org/app/information/newsDetail.aspx?/1175 This is what Mel Grey coach (Paulus Firman) said: both of the team wants to avoid to meet Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang in quarter final what happened? this is all happened when Wang and Yu tried to lose and become runner up So what do you said to Mel and Grey? both of us (INA and KOR) wants to avoid Wang and Yu. however I asked Grey and Mel to fight. even if they meet Wang and Yu, it is OK as long as they tried to fight back why referee almost give the black card? referee gave many warnings to both team, but both of them didn't fight at all so referee wanted to give the black card to both team. after that, INA and KOR team discuss with the referee. they said they will fight for real now after that the referee put back the black card it seems that you were debating about something with KOR coach, what happened? KOR coach said we are not fighting for real they said it is better not to fight. P.S: they put all of the blame to CHN pair (Wang / Yu) if Wang / Yu win the game, both team (INA and KOR) would fight to death to avoid to meet Wang / Yu P.S.S: KOR team would bring this incident to BWF INA team would also do the same Personal opinion (yes above is what they said from PBSI website): KOR team should also bring the CHN VS KOR incident, not only INA VS KOR one
The latest report from BBC said that all 8 players are charged for, err, not using one's best efforts to win a match. Read it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19074013 No mention on outright disqualifications yet.
what's the point of "charged"? what are they gonna do? fine them? what's the point? i really do think disqualification is justified.
would this have happened if they've played using the old elimination format? one and done?.. If so, apparently BWF's idea of using the group play format backfired BIG TIME on an Olympics scale proportion.. ..it may sound mean & lean but i also wouldn't mind disqualifying any or all 4 pairs from the next round... What a mess this has become...now with BWF trying to save face..
Hopefully we will know more before the quarterfinals start ...... If BWF wants to keep whatever respect it still has, it should know what to do.
to me BWF is hopeless ....so far i didnt see any improvement done by them.....LYB sound is louder then BWF ...one word hopeless
This is all political rhetoric. Noise. It's a pretend show that BWF is "tough" (ooooo... charged... yeah, scary). We all know what punishment they mete out will amount to next to nothing. So please save us the song and dance routine. We've seen it all before.
Parties should be reprimanded now. If they let this one go, CHN, KOR, IND will never learn their lesson.
like few years back lin dan beat li mao in korea open .....what BWF react? fined him? banded him to play badminton? BWF pls wake up ....pls benchmark EPL....
They should be thrown out, they've brough the game into disrepute. As if badminton doesn't have enough problems grabbing attention over here now it will be remembered in these games as the game where the players couldn't care less and didn't try. People have paid £100 for their tickets. Do these players and teams have no shame at pulling such a stunt at such a venue? So much for the olympic spirit, I'm truly ashamed.
what would you have done differently, in terms of format, to avoid this type of incident from happening?..
the magnitude and consequence of this incident is way way higher than any other previous tournaments. this time the world is looking because the media are all concentrated on the Olympics and now the whole bloody world knows what a complete farce we have made of our beloved sport.
Damn, missed the "Oscar" show last nite. Where to catch a repeat?I fully support a disqualification on all 4 pairs and move the next 4 pairs into their position. If not, players will never learn and continue to do so in other tournaments. The tournament referee should have the power to decide i.e to issue 1st warning and then to disqualify during the matches played. Totally CRAP !!
Sad, but having a redraw at QF stage ala Thomas cup may be the answer. But I am afraid it may not even come to that as badminton may be booted out earlier than expected.
