I completely agree. The most suprising thing is Cai and Fu's early exit. If not for that, we would have seen a great match of Candra/Sigit vs Cai/Fu in the semis.

Yes, Bach is from N. California. Was always one of the top US player since he was a junior. His game has improve dramatically since pairing up with Tony. Ignatius Rusli is the coach.

    according to worldbadminton.net:

If most of the singles event went the logical way, it wasn’t the same for the doubles' event,
as some of the favourites were shown an early exit on day four of the world championships,
starting with Malaysia’s veterans Choong Tan Fook and Chew Chong Eng.
They were beaten by the house favourites – USA’s last chance for a medal – Tony Gunawan,
a former Olympic champion under the Indonesian banner and local boy Howard Bach.
Their coach for the occasion was no other than Halim Haryanto, a former partner of Tony’s,
who lives in the US as well
    .

unofficially, gunwwan i think had pass on very valuable advice to the team as well. I saw the match on sopcast, the USA team performed an amazing feat. They have now surpassed their normal expectation. Their momentum is with them. Their chosen tactics for this match were correct from the game start. Howard is all pumped and wanna release that energy. Tony is cool, calm and calculated. I think gunawan/bach in the MD final greater than 50% now. If usa get to the final, it will do wonder for badminton in north america.

I think Gunawan/Bach will win tomorrow against Luluk/Alven, but will probably lose against Candar/Sigit in the finals. I put their chances at 40-60 against Candra/Sigit..

Since Tony have come to OCBC, he has helped raised the game of Howard Bach and Bob Malaythong. Now, with the addition of Halim, the USA team now have another world class sparring partner besides Tony, something the USA had been lacking for a long time.

INA is still strong in MD as I mentioned in my previous post. Just imagine if TG is partner with Halim and represent for INA, INA would have 3 pairs in Semi, just like China did for WD. Hepefully, INA will have future stars in MD after Candra/Sigit retire. I am sure they will have. Anyone know how old now for TG, Halim, Candra and Sigit?

If Luluk/Aven not as nervous as Denmark, I believe they have better chance, like 70-30. Denmark didn't play like world#1 seed, blame Lundgaard, he made toooooo many real stupid mistakes.

Tony is 31, Halim is 29, Candra is 30 and Sigit is 30...They are old, but not as old as the 2 Danish MD pairs...:).
Actually, in the MD SF, there are 3 Indonesian pairs, with Tony Gunawan representing Indonesia, but playing for U.S.....Boy, they are sure lucky, i just don't understand what in the world are Jens/Martin doing out there??So obvious, they should've directed their attack to Howard...

Anyway, tomorrow's SF should be fun. I heard a well known "big shot" that lives here in the So. Cal said, if Sigit played like today against Jonas/Lars and they meet Tony G./Howard in the Final, Tony will "demolished" the Indo pair(actually he used a different word, i was just using a softer word)..

I think it will be close. It depends on how Howard goes. I seemed to notice that when the Danes directed their attack to Howard, they get most of the points. Most likely the Indo pairs will concentrate and isolate Howard. I will be surprise if they don't do that, unlike the Danes(gosh, i don't know what were they thinking/doing out there??). Yes, they seemed nervous out there, esp. in the 1st set.
But I'm sure the Indo coach will tell Alven/Luluk who to direct their attack to.
Again, it depends on Howard, he makes mistakes, it's trouble. He doesn't then maybe a good chance to go to the Finals.
