    Superb matches in store.

MS (QF) - anything can happen, but I'll stick out my neck and predict anyway
Q1 - Lin Dan bt Lee Hyun Il
Q2 - Peter Gade Christiansen bt Chen Hong
Q3 - Lee Chong Wei bt Bao Chunlai
Q4 - Taufik Hidayat bt Kenneth Jonassen
This also happens to be the dream lineup for neutral badminton fans because you get the best players from China, Denmark, Malaysia and Indonesia in the semis.
Shaky: All. I'll only wager for Lin and Taufik. The other two are close to 50-50. Mastering the draft could be vital for all.

WS (QF) - has been a trend lately that WS is more unpredictable than MS
Q1 - Zhang Ning bt Kaori Mori
Q2 - Pi Hongyan bt Xu Huaiwen
    Q3 - Wang Chen bt Cheng Shao-Chieh
Q4 - Xie Xingfang bt Tracey Hallam
Predicting the top 4 seeds to win.

MD (QF) - every match exciting
    Q1 - Eriksen/Lundgaard bt Gunawan/Bach - American dream stops here?
    Q2 - Jung/Lee bt Luluk/Alven - close to 50-50, Indons not on top form
    Q3 - Chan/Koo bt Flandi/Eng - well, if they can beat Fu/Cai ... about 50-50
    Q4 - Candra/Sigit bt Paaske/Rasmussen - not easy for title favourites
Also another dream semis if my predictions come through, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and Denmark all represented.
Shaky: Three Indon pairs in the semis will not be a surprise.

WD (SF) - Chinese dominate as usual
    H1 - Yang/Zhang bt Lee/Lee - Koreans have yet to break through
H2 - Gao/Huang bt Zhang/Zhang - this time both Chinese pairs are pretty :), Zhangs beat Gao/Huang in Singapore, but this is WC

XD (QF) - tough draw for Zhang/Gao
    Q1 - Lee/Lee bt Shirley/Runesten - easiest opponent for Koreans
    Q2 - Xie/Zhang bt Chen/Zhao - upset on the cards
    Q3 - Widianto/Natsir bt Bergstrom/Persson - easy for Indons
    Q4 - Zhang/Gao bt Sudket/Saralee - toughest test for Chinese favourites
Koreans and Indons handed easy draw. For Zhang/Gao, QF may be the toughest, SF second toughest and final easiest.

hey is there any live telecast in UK. I would love to see any of the Malaysians playing today. The British Eurosports website says 2100 to 2200, just one short hour for live badminton. What time would that be in US and anybody knows what game they'll be showing

I agree with most of your predictions hcyong, but i feel that the way Kenneth Jonassen Plays[technically] he is perhaps the least affected by drift, which Taufik has not yet entirely adapted to.Still i am gunning for Taufik, but predict that this one is going to go the distance. We can probably expect a marathon.

I dont think so based on his form....Plus, I think it will be good for the sport to have Peter advancing. For once, I dont really one to see another tournament dominated by Chinese, especially if we are trying to showcase our beloved sport to USA.

    People to advance:
    1. Lin Dan most probably
    2. Lee CW most probably
    3. Taufik
    4. Peter Gade

    This would be perfect.

i don't really see how much difference it'd make to US if Gade were to advance to SF instead of CH.

totally agree - wasn't there a receent thomas cup battle between these two that last the full distance?

will be really sad if taufik beats kenneth and then goes on to win - poor kenneth knocked out by the eventual WC again like in 2003 with Xia...

both players are perfectly fit enough, but i really hope that kenneth can do it..

hmmm - are there any head to head stats on kenneth and lin dan?

    Coops

MS matches would be very unpredictable. So far, only LCW and KJ have not experienced real tests due to much favourable draws. This will not be the case in today's 1/8. The others have all gone through ups and downs in their previous matches, which could be good experiences for them ahead of crucial 1/8 encounters. I hope to see LCW advances to 1/4, but BCL seems in a very good form in his match against WCH. Despite LCW won in all their previous encounters, I still rate his chance at 50-50. I was very disappointed with Hafiz's lost to LHI without much fighting. WCH at least had justified his 1/16 seeding, so nothing much could be expected from him.

For MD, I was disappointed with CTF/CCE's lost to US pair. However, this would certainly be their last match in the international arena. The two Msian young pairs had tried their best against Indo's gaints and they have nothing to lose. Luckily, KKK/CCM managed to save grace for Msian double department and brought back some smiles on the very gloomy day in Msian camp. 7/9 representatives failed last night for Msia. What's a bad day!

I hope to see both single and double will advance to next round.

I just remembered the news article about Lee CW under pressure for carrying the burden of the nation. Well, looks like he is going to carry the burden. Luckily, Chan/Koo are there to help. But Chan/Koo won't really mind losing the next round too much since they have already exceeded their seeding. This will relax them and let them play at their best. The irony...

    All Chinese maches

Does the Chinese team still do that thing where if they play each other at the quarter or semi-final stages, they only compete in the first game and then concede the second?

In women's doubles and the mixed, there are all Chinese match-ups, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the second games.

I felt sorry for Zhang Jiewen and Yang Wei in 2003 when they were fined. I don't think you should blame the players if they're just following their coaches' orders. Plus, they could have come back and won the match if they had been allowed to play a proper second game. They're certainly good enough to beat Gao/Huang.

    MS (QF):
LD should win, but it looks like LHI suddenly is showing some of what he can do. LD still the better player so no upset.
Taufik probably favourite - but I hope for Kenneth.
Think Gade is the slight fav. but as you all see it really isn't much differance in any of the QF, only LD should be "sure".

    MD (QF):
1st seed should pass by, but what a match it should be with all the american public finally having to root for some of their own in a *great* match.
Might very well be 3 indo pairs in SF, or none if everything goes bad. I say it will be two......don't know which.

    WD (SF):
Lee/Lee is there once again (like Ra/Lee used to be), challenging, but still having to overcome the hurdle to beat any of the top chinese pair in the SF. Problem in WD is that it's always the lone koreans making the last frontier. Let's hope that some more pairs can start to create upsets earlier in the tournament. As it is now I think it's too much to beat two chinese pairs in a row, SF & final. So the gold will go to China no matter if Lee/Lee surprisingly manage to win the SF.

    XD (QF):
Hoping that the swedes can put up a good fight, but shouldn't be enough to make any upset. Koreans should be cruising through.
Zhang/Gao indeed might find the way to an eventual final harder than the final it self.....Question is will they end as both reigning olympic *and* world champs? Nice way to end a career:D
