S4madman, Costco sells a variety of glucosamine products. Some are in liquid form. I believe Cosamin DS is a famous brand in the U.S.
Regarding the knee pain, does anybody has a thought whether it is related to the shoes that the person is wearing. Actually, I had that experience before, but it was related to tennis game. Few years back, I was playing tennis and got my knee pain for no reason cause I knew I did not get twisted or injured. But then, I found out it was related to my old shoes. I guessed the support of the shoes was wore out and it caused my knee pain. From then now, I am always use a good pair of insole which has the good support for the angle and the front part of the foot. I also put the insole in my indoor court shoes for my badminton game. Hope this help.
I think fanatico is referring to diabetics. Normal badders shouldn't worry about glucosamine affecting glucose level.
Is it? I did not dig into the internet about glucoseamine. I came to know quite a lot about it 18 years ago when I was given massive injections of the stuff into my right knee cartilage for about 4-5 consecutive days.
i dont think there is glucose? its a complex sugar and i think our body does not have the required enzymes for enzyme-substrate complexes to be formed and break down the glucosamine to glucose. i am kornfuzed too
We are not expert in this area. Therefore, there is no point in arguing further. I can only vouch for glucosamine's efficiacy in reducing pain. Granted one has to continuously take glucosamine at least half a year for its maximum effect to appear. I will inquire about articular injection of glucosamine.
Well, the problem in my knee might be same or different than whats being discussed here. What I had few months ago was, while walking there was no pain, no pain while going up stairs, BUT, when going down stairs and during standing up putting whole weight on my knees. Also, when I bend my both knees together without any support. It was kind of strecth in my veins at the knee cap. Very irritating and causing too much stretch. I went to chiropractor and he asked me to apply ice after game and also, try sitting on our feet being completly on ground. That helped me a lot and right now, the painor stretch is not there.
I noticed some mention about papain and bromelain so i looked them up. A little extra info about Bromelain Enzyme source from wikipedia of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [edit] Medical uses Bromelain can be used in a vast array of medical conditions. It was first introduced in this area in 1957, and works by blocking some proinflammatory metabolites that accelerate and worsen the inflammatory process. It is an anti-inflammatory agent, and so can be used for sports injury, trauma, arthritis, and other kinds of swelling. Its main uses are athletic injuries, digestive problems, phlebitis, sinusitis, and aiding healing after surgery. It has also been proposed in the use of arthritis,[2] chronic venous insufficiency, easy bruising, gout, hemorrhoids, menstrual pain, autoimmune disorders, and ulcerative colitis. Studies have shown that bromelain can also be useful in the reduction of platelet clumping and blood clots in the bloodstream, especially in the arteries. It may even be useful in the treatment of AIDS to stop the spread of HIV.[3] Its side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, menorrhagia (excessively heavy menstrual flow) and possible allergic reactions. One study has also associated Bromelain with increased heart rate. Bromelain supplementation up to 460 mg has been shown to have no effect on human heart rate or blood pressure; however, increasing doses up to 1840 mg have been shown to increase the heart rate proportionately. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glucosamine Supplements I was reading up on Glucosamine Supplements and was surprised to find BORON in these supplements. Is this the same Boron used for producing racquets? Sources: http://www.kordels.com/product/food_supplements_details/56 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron http://www.medicaldictionary.net/boron.htm
Boron (as boron chelate) is believed to be necessary for certain essential body function such as metabolism and minerals absorption at trace level. However, boron is toxic when present at higher level. It is recommended to only take the necessary amount of boron indirectly by eating fruits and vegetables.
