Yuta Watanabe ( 渡辺 勇大 )

I'd say tier 2 is YutaArisa, SSJ/CYJ and the Thai pair. In this tier, the pairs struggle to find consistent success while being a threat to tier 1s on a good day while also having some smaller titles. To be honest, if it weren't for their 3 big hauls (2 X 750s and 1 X 1000), Jordan and Melati are still very average at times. Immediately after winning the Denmark and French Opens, they went back to their former selves, lost some to YutaArisa and lost some to Hafiz and Gloria.

I put Melati/Jordan up there because they are a consistent threat to the Chinese pairs, and in the process can wrestle good titles when they are in form. But yeah they’re not as consistent as the Chinese. Whereas for Tier 2 they have to play out of their minds + hope the Chinese have an off day to beat them.

Quite similar to Ginting in MS eh, average most of the time but when he plays Momota you can be assured he’ll put a tough fight

Maybe thread starter can include Endo into title as well??

Found this amazing photo

Well I would like you to thank you for the idea, but this thread is more about Yuta. I know for doubles the threads include both players, but for I am a Yuta fan, and do hope that every player irrespective of their category they play in should get their respective threads, also because Yuta plays in two different categories, so accumulating comments about him in one place would be better. But if everyone feels like that then I shall change the title to include both players.

The last player I remember being as good at drop shots must be Jung JaeSung.
Which is obviously a high compliment.
You forgot ahsan ? :D

I remember how ahsan score so many points with his dropshot against LYD/YYS in 2016 TC. not as much as yuta in AE 2018 final though :D

I swear he has the deadliest dropshot in doubles. just watched AE 2018 XD final and he hit like 10 winners from his dropshot alone lol crazy
I would rank the AE2018 XD Final as the best match of Yuta and the AE2020 MD Final the 2nd best. Also I think I can confidently say that Yuta has the best disguise dropshot in the current gen of pros, I mean the shot/win ratio tells it all.

If anyone is willing to watch this video, then go to 2:56 of the said video, you will see how close both smash and drop shot forms are, he can change his shots from smash to dropshot at his will without any change in his form.

Interesting comparison. Is it true that I still see the difference between his smash and drop shot at 2:56?
His smash still goes for full swing (on the clock it goes from 9-10-11-12-1-2-3-4-5 o'clock) while his drop shot has quicker snap (like from 9' cut through center to 3'-4-5').
