It would seem that next time I shall be aiming for my doubles partners back in the league next time I do a jump smash!
Hmmm...Usually I would lightly swing my racket and lightly hit my right calf before I get onto the court (for concentration, but not sure if's for luck )
What? Given my current standard, you should count yourself fortunate that I haven't hit you more often. As for the jump smash, I don't think I've got much to worry about there; when have you ever had the energy to jump smash? You're usually too lazy even to put up your racquet when receiving serve. On a related issue, during the England vs Malaysia MD at Manchester 2002, Simon Archer developed really strange mannerisms before almost every rally, which were verging on symptoms of an obsessive compulsive disorder. I understand that he was probably trying to ready himself for the next rally through a specific routine of movements, but if it were taken out of context and replayed as part of the highlights of the match, it would look very odd indeed.
i tend to always check my strings before a tourny. If they're frayed, i'll try to break them by doing some smashing drills. You might think, why don't you just cut them? Well, I tend to be one of those people that want to get 100% out of things.
A friend (who packs rocket-powered jump smashes) likes to hit the side of his feet the racquet everytime he gets ready to receive the serve. It's similar to that of o jeff's but lower. He broke one racquet while doing that last year, a Cab 21 SP.
i know a few people that do that too.. i used to do it too but stopped because i got red marks on the side of my calfs.
wilfredlgf: what?! How hard did he swing?? That is really weird. I can't never imagine if I broke a racket on hitting myself. yonexfanatic: Haha, that's the reason I don't paint my string
Not very hard at all, but you can hear a low 'thump' when the racquet head hits the sole/side of the shoe. Cracked! That's it, Cab 21 gone... But I guess it's gotten too weak already, having been part of heavy usage (hit, scratch, clash, throw etc). Or maybe it got strung at too high a tension. Thus, I WARN him not to hit to do that when he uses my Ti-10, else I'd strangle him until the face go green. Think about it, rocket-powered jump smash + Ti-10. Is it powerful?
Isn't CAB21 renown for its weak durability? No question that it's a great racquet, but very lacking in the durability department. Also, very likely that the racquet broken in that manner has some internal damage already. I used to hit the side of my thigh with my racquet occasionally when I need to 'wake up', I doubt that an undamaged racquet would break from that kinda action.
~whoa... I always tap the side of my head with the string bed whenever I made some poor shots and need to wake myself up. Hopefully, neither the racquet nor my head will crack after making this "thud" sound... -Rick
lol i haven't thought about it until i started reading the thread lets see my habits... -spin racquet -check feathers -redo shots -wenever i get into the rite position to serve i take a slight backwards step -walk around the court before/after a rally -wenever i lose points i look at the opponents side of the court and compare to mine... yea i think that's about it...duno dere'z prob more lol
post-tournament superstitions Hey everyone, i was just wondering if any of you...follow a certain routine or do something unique prior to a tournament as a g'lux kinda thing. Thx for your time
I think the title of your post is in need of a little correcting..."pre-tournament superstitions"... . And no, I have no pre-tournament superstitions, strange that, as I have many other superstitions like pre-exam superstitions or pre-golf swing superstitions.
Heh..I got one but I do it everytime time before a game and not only for tournaments.. I will always take out the racket that I am going to use for the game and leave it on a table or my bed..somehow I feel that my racket will 'absorb' energy from the surroundings, allowing me to play better..
That's quite a superstition Mine might be just as good too. If I am about to play a game that I know will be tough and I feel I am not as alert as I should be, I close my eyes and listen to everything - try and listen to every sound being made and to turn off the brain's audio relevance filter for a while. I dunno why exactly, but it does put me in a better state of mind for a while. If I don't I will get annoyed with myself quite easily *if* I start the game knowing I am not concentrating too well. Otherwise I just warm up properly now
I always kiss the tape of the net when I make a shot that touches the tape and falls on the other side of the court (making it a winner shot). Just a way to thank the net ......hehehe
