When I feel groggy, I slowly inhale with my nose and exhale through my mouth while closing my eyes. I also jump a few times before serves. I think it's the placebo effect that gives me this "second wind".
Pray, Burn incense, and ofcourse... think unsexy thoughts. Nah I don't have much supersition about Badminton. Except maybe sometimes replaying the stroke i did on a failed shot and then swearing my ass off.
I spin my racket around before a match and depending on the importance of the match, i will spend a bit of time silently telling the chinese dragon symbol i wear what im going to do. Its very good luck i think, i had a gold chain before that and almost never won! Please dont lock me up.
I kiss the birdie before important serve/rally that I have to win. then if I screwed up on something I pat my head with my racket (not with the rim/shaft) .... one more: turn the racket to the "right" grip position
wow, this is a really old thread... my superstitions/bad habits: - i spin my racket subconsciously before every rally to make sure i get a good feel before a rally.. - i adjust my string to make sure that the string bed is neat (especially when i just hit a bad shot) and hence have the impression that the next shot will not go haywire.. - i smooth out the feathers of the shuttles before service..
hmmm, i think i have a few i spin my racket when my partner is receiving or serving (only during serves obv.) if i win a point, i kinda do a mini lap of honour, god that sounds lame, if say i smash, get the point, i tend to walk round the court and back to my starting posistion - only jsut thought about that one i check my strings after every rally also when hitting the shuttle up to see who serves, i hit it as high as i can
If I just won a point in a game I'd immediately get ready to serve again, to sort of rush my opponent. Usually most people will hurry back to get into position again, at least in friendly matches. In tournaments... If I lost a point.. I'd walk around a bit to slow down, get back my breath, and get back into position. Hehe. Oh, and I usually check the position of my legs before serving(forehand serve) to ensure that I don't serve into the back of my legs.. done that before. I've stopped that eversince I accidently served into my leg(hard, I was attempting to serve high and deep) and blood came out. Lol, yes, it was that strong. Let's just say I've been slightly paranoid about it happening again. My whole leg went numb for a moment, and it took a while before my leg lost its numbness.
wow .. superstitions ... mine is more like routines ... well .. for me if id really like to win the point .. ill make sure the feathers look as good as if its new no matter if im serving or opponent is serving haha ... routines/superstitions i spin the racket a lot to make sure my grips is 'feeling' it ... routines check my shoe laces every now and then .... routines check my string everytime i serve or waiting a serve ... routines other than those mentioned ... i guess i dun hav a real superstition ... maybe id be more alert to find one hehehe ..
This more a coincidence that superstition on my part: My daughter was born on August 8. That's 8/8, and as you Chinese folks know, 8 is a lucky number. Here's the coincidence - my main racquet is a Woven 8. My previous racquet that I still use as backup is an MP88. There's more - my wife's racquet is an MP44 (4+4=8). Weird, eh. Maybe I should get an STB 8080+ just to continue this coincidence
I have a few, I cut my hair before a tournament on the Friday. I used to tap my front left shoe before receiving. Another would be spinning the racket after a rally. I check out my strings if I make a bad shot, just to regain my focus again. (A lot of players do this although some probablly blame their strings)
I know of a few people would move their racket left and right slightly before serving. Hell, i am not even sure that's legal!
When my opponent is scoring fast I unnecessarily re-tie my shoe lace.I have got good result many times.
curse the net's white tape cos for god knows why it just suck down all my serve like a magnet now if only i have a way to move that magnetic attraction to the side lines..
I wear two as well, but not for superstitious or routine reasons. I do it for blister reasons, or therelackof.
I used to, but with better shoes and orthotics I could get by with on thick pair of Costco socks. But I gotta have two pairs. Badminton people understand. My wife rolls her eyes.
