Yonex ALL ENGLAND Open 2018 : DRAW

Indonesia has more players in double events. On the opposite, China has more players in single event. So counting number of players may not be truly representative. So I counted participation by events entered, meaning only counting double pair as one entry.

Japan is getting close to China's level in the early 2010s where they can probably form 2 Uber Cup teams and it's not all that unlikely that those 2 teams will meet in the final. Already there for WD, not quite yet for WS.

If that day comes, wonder if anyone will start saying that their domination is unhealthy for the sport ;)

National doubles head coach of Malaysia Cheah Soon Kit said he had no problems with the new rule but hoped that the world body would be clear with the implementation.

“The world body have given players ample time to be ready. From my observation here, I think most players struggled to adapt,” said Soon Kit.

“V Shem and Wee Kiong tried their best but they were faulted a few times and it broke the rhythm of their play.

“The BWF should create more awareness of this rule among the service judges and players.

“Stating a new measurement is not enough. They should make it clear whether it’s the feather or the shuttlehead that cannot be above the height ... which is right? How will one know?

“Hopefully, it will be better at the All-England. Players will have to adapt. I hope that the BWF will be firm and not just test it here and abandon it later.”

Solution:

New rule

The All England Open will be the second tournament, after last week's German Open, to feature BWF's new experimental service rule. Under this rule, "the whole of the shuttle shall be below 1.15 metres from the surface of the court at the instant of being hit by the server's racket." So far the permissible height was 1.1 metre from the court.

Really funny. I am very excited to see tomorrow's match of Mads Kolding as Victor withdrew from the tournament.

I wonder how many service fault calls will Gideon get in this All-England in a single set.
I just saw in Quora someone referred Gideon as the worst abuser of service rules, just hoping no low-quality Indonesian internet users attacking that person lol.

Herry IP claimed they have trained and it was okay. Then PBSI posted one picture which made me feel something is quite fishy....

3 things need to change during BWF may meeting :

1. If they dont want to look funny by reversing the service rules, at least make it to 120cm so that it doesnt appear so tight for many players and also judges. No one will or can cheat by serving 5cm higher than 115. The notion of serves is the receiver, as long as the receiver is ready everybody is OK with it.

2. Lumping GPG/BWF300 to the whole list of titles is a joke. Japan won 5GPG and have 6 titles? what is that? They said they want badminton to be more popular but imo, there is no exclusiveness in that. They are making the whole 26 tours look the same.
why not count the past Superseries equal with WorldChampionships then?

3. More coverage is more Money but which TV channel want to dedicate 10 hours of Quarter and Semifinal date and pay that much. BWF has to realise that the fans also have a life and picking 5 matches are enough for each round. I think its more important if they can dedicate R1-R2 coverage for SS/GPG events like they previously didnt able to rather than extending 10 matches everyday.

They are fixing something that is not broke instead of adding to it.
No 2 is wrong address though, it's Wikipedia and some badminton fan accounts which are doing that. You can make whatever list you desire. BWF didn't make official "World Tour title standings by country"

a lot, probably gonna make them lose in the 1st round.

IMO, the new rule is not going to affect a shorter player like Gideon. It will affect only the taller ones

It is common in countries based on democracy

Who else withdrew aside from Viktor? I see more PFRs: 2 in MS (including VA), 1 in WS and 2 in WD.

Will this live stream be available outside of the UK?

Try visiting the BBC Sport Website and maybe use Hola VPN browser extension to access it. It is for sure you can't access it without TV license.

Here come the Chinese warriors in WD.

I wonder now. Do those seeded 33-36 just come to the tournament knowing they have chance to play in the main round? I mean they are so ready? or they are just there to be sparring partner?

I actually think the 2 Chinese WD or MS is not seeded 33/34? Its just that you just cant expect those who have doesnt have national associate to wait on the wings in case of other withdraw because of flight costs, accomodation?

I think for shorter player like Gideon, the new rule either has no effect or perhaps will even lessen his service fault. I don't think at anytime Gideon was serving higher than 1.15m given his height is only 1.68m, unless he served from his chest.

Below waist old rules was ambiguous and causes many controversial service fault calls in the past. I personally feel that old rule gives advantage to tall player as their waist level is higher.
