    Hmm..

..that's partly...maybe also the quality of players competing unlike in previous editions..
    Off topic:
    - As mentioned earlier, the U.S. has already pocketed a MD title in the 2005 WC edition (Los Angeles), through the same pair Gunawan/Bach. Since their win, the interest hasn't changed much. If there is any sign, then it's minimal.
    - The U.S. folks, in most part, are still uninterested in baddy. With what, no coverage, if limited (only during Olympics), on tv/cable at all. Only a very minute percentage has grown interest since but for the most part, the interest still lies only in the influx of the Asian communities spread out all over the states.
    - Bill Gates is probably an ardent fan of baddy, but that would be as far as it goes.
    - If you're referring to a U.S. born or U.S. grown talent, yes, there is none in this current generation. In the past, there have been great U.S. home-grown talents. In the future, who knows?
    - About the far-fetched idea of Microsoft jumping in & chipping in with a sponsorship or prize money, yes, it's been brought up and mentioned before in one of the 2008 Olympics threads.
    - Sure, increased prize money will garner interest. But it's part of the solution, as talent will have to be there as well. The exposure to the game has to be there as well, but the U.S. hasn't seen much of televised baddy. So how can the people/public get exposed to the sport??
    - Actually, soccer in the U.S. has had a pretty good following (schools with soccer teams/competition). Just that the interest is not as much as the other 3 more popular sports, esp. in professional level. U.S.' Men's soccer has shown signs of the public interest in soccer/footie. But it's still minimal. If you're referring to the U.S. Women's soccer, now, they've been at the top of the world for quite some time.

Btw, i noticed the entire Thailand squad has withdrawn. I've searched for news but couldn't find much detail. Does anyone know what happened? What caused their withdrawal?..and care to share with us??thanks..

    I agree with your opinion...

Yes.... make the World Championship a 2 year thing! But don't make World Junior Championship a 2 year thing.... Better stick to making WJC an annual event due to the 'age limit' thing... :p

I only found info about Thai MD withdrawing cos one of them had fever, tested for H1N1, but was negative. It's in one of these links :

Boonsak, Tanongsak, and Porntip are still play, I met them on team bus and Porntip said nothing about withdrawal. but, yes, the doubles player are not there.
Maybe related with this news ... http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...urnament-in-Hyderabad/articleshow/4880095.cms
but i can't rely on this websites 100%, they write before that it's misbun sidek who got fever...
I'll try to find out about Thailand tomorrow.

Thomas Lund said the coach who reported a sore throat and mild fever was assesed by the medical team. He was taken to hospital for test and observation. At this time no confirmed diagnosis and the presenting symptoms indicated that the likelihood of this being H1N1 is small. They are awaiting the results of the test in 48 hours, which is on Wednesday night.

That's the latest from here. Hope the coach is OK, and no more issues and rumours disturbing this championship.

Yes, i saw the same news also..

..okay, same news link. Yeah, only the Doubles pairs have withdrawn not the entire team. So quick to decide their withdrawal.

It seems like the local media is, indeed, making these issues/rumors magnanimous. Seems to be over-precautious.

Indeed, H1N1 is the biggest issue here, headlines on every newspaper and tv news. They keep counting suspected, infected case, and casualties every day, start from Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai...

as long as i know, bird flu is more threatening than H1N1..

Okay..this is info that I got from reliable player who talked to Saralee...
She complained that she got dizzy, etc...she is afraid that she might got IT..so she decided not to play today and will be back to Thailand tomorrow..she did not want to be detained in India if she develops the systom or go to hospital

coming to a court near you...
My congrats of HHY for breezing through the 1st round today. Haven't gone through the pics thread yet to see if there was a pic or two of her. I pray she was not in that horrible pink kiddy-like outfit.

Should be another easy victory in R2. Then the real tournament begins :)
