The most significant event today may be CHN's decision to stay or to go. That decision is due today.

yes, agree. Even yesterday night I try to get some news from the players, they said they don't know yet, have to wait for the announcement by tomorrow(this) morning. If they change their mind to leave, this WC will be meaningless. :(

Meaningless for CHN fans, but not for others for sure :)

Well, in that case it does represent a good chance for Lee Chong Wei or Sony Dwi Kuncoro or Peter Gade or Park Sung Hwan to win their first World Championships title though :)

Most importantly for INA WD, it will also be a "great blessing" if CHN indeed withdraws as it does mean that both Nitya/Grace and Mel/Shendy will be spared an early exit.

    We shall see.....

but without chinese players like Lin Dan, sure there is less excitement for this WC. People always want to see other non-chinese players to break through China's wall, if they really decided to leave, then we could not watch a perfect WC for this year as China and England have pulled out. Another news is that Denmark and Netherland might pull out also depending on how serious the problem is in Hyderabad. But yesterday one of the chinese players told me, the terrorist attack is aiming against three countries (China, USA, and England). But I don't know how true it is.

if that is even 1% true, if i were china or usa then i'd be on the first plane back home.
it would be a total disaster for not only the sport of badminton but the indian sports association as well if china were to pull out.

I would assume if their was a terrorist attack, they would be aiming for USA, England, and Canada. I don't see China in their radar. France could as well be in there.

if i were the china official, i would decide not to continue this WC under the unsecure situation. it will also can effect the athlete's concentration...
better go home early than being killed by a bomb
just let the othar country grab the title, like malaysia, a big badminton country but very long time drought the WC title.

yaya. Even WYH's mother is worried about her daughter also, she rather want the team to leave Hyderabad. As WC is held once a year, come back next year in Paris.

    several interesting matches

Howard Bach/Tony Gunawan [USA] Vs [MAS] Tan Fook Choong/Wan Wah Lee [12]
The MAS uncles versus form3r world champion, but hope Tony/Bach show their WC level again!!

Kenichi Tago [JPN] Vs [DEN] Joachim Persson [7]
expect another upset, but in his facebook, JP mention that he well prepared for this WC, but I bet Tago could win in tight rubber game

It will be most unfortunate if China pulls out:crying:, but it is their decision. It is rarely you see high level badminton tournaments in India.
I can't see what more can Indian security agencies do unless the players and their staff want to stay inside an army barrack now. You can't make anybody feel secure, if fear has already taken over somebody's mind.
Never mind, keeping this aside, apart from the Indian players, I have decided to cheer for the Israeli pair of Misha-Svetlana (go Misha!!!:)) and as usual any Indonesian player (provided they are not competing against Indians:D)

    CHINA TEAM may withdraw????

Instead of withdrawing the entire team why not leave behind those players who wanted to stay and compete or send some second team player to replace the current STARS.

Maybe allow one player/pair for each discipline.

With CHINA depth in talent, they can easily relace WORLD CLASS players if any unfortunate incident occur.

Further more the presence of a few CHINESE player can still induce excitement.

To minimise and dispell more fear about the impending TERRORIST ATTACK,
the officials may have to organise free admission to students to build a scenario of trouble free with adequate security.

The officials than can cite this situation that even local parents have no fear to allow
their children to be presnt at the tournament.
