    Hi Everyone!!

Maybe we could arrange a meeting between me and a lot of you guys at the same time. I would like to meet some of the people writing here and exchange ideas of badminton philosofies!!

Could someone take the initiative to put such a meeting into place??

    Kind Regards

    TN,

IBF will meet next week to decide if the tournament will go ahead.

Basically, it's the problem with SARS.

Personally, I think badminton players are pretty low risk as most live nearby their training ground(ie no need to take public transport) and meet limited numbers of people during the day.

BUT, there is a chance that you might need to cancel your plane ticket if the tournament really doesn't go ahead. (I hope that this is not the case though)

hi all, i've had my ticket since the AE finished so i'm a bit unprepared for the SARS problem however from what i've heard it's only become a real problem in Asia, over in britain we've only had about 7/8 cases and none have been fatal.

with any luck the tournament will go ahead as usual

JR - I'm at the event friday and saturday. who else is there friday?

    Neli

Unfortunately, many top players are from Asia.

yes true but i would imagine they are being extremely careful, and i'd imagine they will be doing their best to stay out of the worst areas. also i would guess that they've been travelling a lot what with the japan and korean open's being on recently. I hope they don't change the dates :(

There is a spot reserved in 19 OCtober 2003 for IBF tournament.

Failing that, a rescheduled tournament could take place instead of the HK Open.

The chinese national training centre is in Beijing....we are not sure how many cases are up there with the infection. Even the Chinese central goveremnt have a problem collecting figures due to problems in the reporting system.

I hope the dates won't change....

World meet to go on, say IBF

    By LIM TEIK HUAT
PETALING JAYA: The World Championships in Birmingham will take place next month as scheduled, despite the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) scare.

International Badminton Federation vice-president Datuk Punch Gunalan said yesterday the governing body had no plans to defer the world meet which will be held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham from May 12-18.

“The World Championships will go on as planned.

“There will be no cancellation. Unless something serious happens in Birmingham by that time, there is no reason not to proceed with the preparations,” said Gunalan.

There has been growing concern that the championships would be postponed because of current spread of the SARS virus.

The deadly outbreak has been at its worst in Asian countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore with cases also reported in Malaysia.

It had been feared that the organisers would not want to risk any of the participants or officials catching or spreading the deadly disease.

China are sending the biggest squad of 24 players for the World Championships this time.

Gunalan said the IBF had been keeping tabs of situation in the last two weeks.

“Based on the feedback we have got from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the situation is improving.

“The players and officials should not have worries, as the organisers in England will be taking the necessary precautions.

“Strict health screenings are being done by the relevant authorities on any visitors entering England.

The World Championships is held every two years and is the most prestigious individual badminton competition.

Over 350 players from 46 countries are expected in Birmingham over the course of the competition.

IBF will also be holding its annual general meeting (AGM) during the World Championships as well as the World Coaches Conference.

Read in papers that they will be re-scheduled/postphoned

by 1/2 months, so you'll have plenty of time to hone your racquet skills

after World Championships. I think you are going to bag a few mixed titles soon.

OK, I will be there for whole Saturday and Sunday. I am taking my camera so there will be no problem with pictures. I will see what can I do with the report.

As for the contact I can give my cellphone number on request. I prefer to do it by PM.
