wat exactly does the titanium coating do on the strings and play anywayz? or is it a gimmick just like titanium rackets? how are the colors on the strings putted on? is it just a coating on the surface? does that affect the play and ability of the string?
the ti coating is just on the surface, it actually doesnt do anything....its just marketing. its a VERY thin layer of coating, it cant do anything at all... yonex claims it does this and that...but its all lies. u know why? in the catalog, yonex compares hydro titainium to normal strings and said that hydro is 4 times stronger or something....well yes thats true, but they didnt write HYDRO TITAINIUM COATED STRINGS! they just wrote hydro titainium compared to strings! THEN OF COUSR HYDRO TITAINIUM IS STRONGER! ITS TITAINIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but then when u compare a ti coated string to a normal string, theres no diff cept that the ti string is a bit stiffer....if even. yonex advertises too much "]
Not to diss you or anything buddy... but you criticize them for being so overly marketed, and for being too expensive, yet you still use and buy their stuff... sorry to say this Shaun, but you're a hypocrite. that's not a bad thing, cause I think a lot of us are hypocrites of some sort. I just wanted to point it out... haha.
NOOOOOOOOOOO NOT A HYPOCRITE "] i buy yonex stuff cheapER that retail ^_^ so i'm happy. but yonex DOES over market their stuff...come on, u HAVE to agree with me on that one "] its sooo true. look at ti! everyone is crazy for ti!! now ti grips...thats insane! wot next? ti shoes?
agree, titanium started to appear in all sorts of merchandize is purely marketing. i mean, come on, there are titanium jackets and titanium gloves?? i use MP rackets not really due to the "titanium" but my genuinely enjoy using that racket. and i seriously doubt the titanium has anything to do with it. one product in which i think benefits from titanium is bicycle frames, in which the complete frame is made up of titanium (vs. just a coating, or a mesh), and that changes the character of the ride significantly.
woho kwun! wohooo someone else that is into biking(or seems to be). ya ti frames in bikes are good....but super expensive, i like my 6061 easton tubing "] and yes jeff, yonex has ti grips....so stupid. all this ti hype
Re: woho kwun! litespeed lol thats super expensive~! u ride? i'm riding a giant ATX 840! i just got new geax semi slicks today(forgot wot they are called). i can now avg 40kmph no problem with these new tires...so amazing! so much better than the old kevlar bead veloci raptors i used to ride on. lol watch no one know wot i'm talking about "[
i remember now....they are geax revert 160! so light...kevlar bead...super super super fast! GO GET THEM! much better than maxis worm drives on hard pack...
Re: woho kwun! What about Merlin's new Century? With a Cannondale Silk Road front suspension and a rear suspension too, the frame is just 3.8lbs in a 55cm frame. My old Cannondale R400 (upgraded with a mottley assortment of RSX, 100, 105 and dura ace components) is a pretty decent bike with a very light frame (probably 3.2lbs), but it sure can't compare to the comfort on that baby.
It's not even titanium, mind you. It's a titanium oxide (or dioxide?), i.e. it's a white powder... looks like flour... you tell me how that makes the string stronger!
Re: woho kwun! i am a roadie. i started off life as a roadie, fell to the dark side for a little while, and saw the light again... but now, heck, i spend all my free time playing badminton. really should take advantage of the nice weather.....
Well Mag, after having used titanium facial tissues for a month now, I just tried the latest titanium pastries, and let me tell you, if you thought your regular croissant or muffin was resiliant and crispy yet chewy, wait until you try one of these new technologically advanced treats. Wore a layer of enamel off my teeth, but hey, if it's Ti, it must be good, right? I can't wait for those titanium chickens....
Well, they do say it's a Titanium hydride compound. Titanium hydride is a dark grey water-soluble powder. (I remembered incorrectly about it being Titanium oxide, sorry) Apparently its particles are of very uniform size, which could possibly be beneficial when used as a coating component. It *could* be a "happy accident" that it's Titanium hydride and not, for instance, Wolfram hydride (if there is such a thing)... or have we just been fooled again?
i think wolfram ~ to tungsten which yonex did not imply. Hmmm, i better not touch ti strings with my sweaty palm during game playing.
