I don't understand this mentality. Badminton is a game. Can we be more matured & civilized?? To boo/taunt/distract (whatever you may call/do to) a player and eventually when that player loses, what ultimate glory does the opponent(winner) gets. Yes, home crowd by all means cheer your players but don't reduce ourselves to such a level. The competition is telecast livedover many parts of the world. In the end we only bring embarrassment to our ourselves and nation. No wonder badminton is unable to draw the same international interest like tennis and even table tennis.
It s not the numbers that count, it s the quality. The MAS crowd here is all noise. They join the party when the MAS side is winning and sink the boat pretty fast with taunts when the MAS is losing. The MAS fans overseas are real quality. They deserve the fre OG12 tickets.
So wrong...! May I please refer you to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQrppLfFhC0 And all would agree that this match is much more important than a Super Series. Bottom line is, there are a great difference in between LD and LCW that holds the key to victory - mental strength.
Some of the fans were pissed cos LD gave walkover last yr in Msia & Spore, thus wasting their ticket $$$. It has happened once too often till people dont believe its real injury/illness anymore. One could say the players should be mentally strong enuf to withstand any taunt. Playing in INA is also a challenge for Msia players due to some issues between the 2 countries. But Msia players are expected to take it, withstand it, which some have successfully.
Disagree. The MAS fans did the right thing to send the message to LD that no champion is above the sport or the fans. The AE08 fans got what they deserved with their polite acceptance: the longest fake match.
Badminton is about the only game that can bring sports glory to Malaysia & Indonesia and I can understand their undying passion. And in the end if they do not get to watch their dream final, are they any happier? If the answer is 'yes', period. Frankly, nobody really knows the whole true story behind all these withdrawals - she is assumming, they are of the opinion...etc, but even if there is some truth in some of those theories, I choose to fill sorry not only for the fans but also for the players. Perhaps, all of us should move on from here...there's the 2012 Olympics to look ahead and may the best players win. Cheers
The fans would not have gotten to watch dream final anyway. If LD had won, it would be LD vs CJ today,it is expected CJ would have been the one to go thru to gain precious OG points. On LCW half, if CL beat LCW in semi, no dream final either.Msia fans dont give mercy to own players, what more those from other countries. They booed at KKK/TBh after they lost. They jeered at Fuzzy pair at TC 2010.
we appreciate when there is a real match, example:the xd match yesterday we just want to send the message to li yong bo and cba that they cant do whatever they want. the crowd and audience know exactly what is going on. even in china, lin dan complain that the crowd is supporting his opponent.
What about soccer and some other sports where many boos happened ? International interest still there. I think it is alright to express feeling vocally as long as there is no throwing of anything. No physical abuse, just verbal abuse. Although verbal abuse may leave deeper impact but those who are strong enough mentally are true champs.
there is no room for any hooliganism in badminton... it is a gentleman's sport after all. positive support like clapping, cheering is fine... but we should not stoop to negative behaviour like booing, jeering, taunting, verbal abuses etc... that just reflects poorly on the sport and the country of those individuals, especially if it's on live tv and live streamed worldwide
hey there...didn't have any time to watch the match.. was it a real one ? Did LD played his KOSS game or what ? Can't believe i don't wanna play LCW once again because of fear..
If its true that Lin Dan is not giving his best in order to serve the greater goal, habitually... nature's law of check and balance will prevail and sooner or later he will start to lose tournaments even when he doesnt want to. When this happens, the greater goal (read LYB) will move on to the next big thing.... where will he be?
The poster rogerv2 had stated "During play I doubt the players even aware of the crowd." I was merely giving an example of someone who was.
I wasn't there. How would I know? Were you there? If you were, you can make up your own mind. All I did was point out something based on a fact. Nothing more, nothing less.
No, LD didn't lose because of the crowd ..... fact is, the crowd still applauds his best moves in that match. But he may not be in a good enough condition to beat Jorgensen - like I said, fatigue. I could see that he tried to catch up for a while and string 5-6 winning rallies together with brilliant play late in the game. But he can't stop making mistakes on his touch shots.
