My issue with NTY is his lack of follow through with whatever he had in mind. Especially when his initial plan of attack is thwarted, he would revert back to his defense play but he doesn't have confidence in his stamina to survive his opponent's onslaught. Furthermore his constant delay between rallies is almost a guarantee to his opponents that all they need to do is move him and tire him out.
He is a decent player, better than most malaysian players but he is nowhere near LZJ’s level past or present and definitely cannot be compared to LSF, SYQ, Ginting, kunlavut etc or any of the top 10. His stamina and attacking play needs a lot of help. He does have good skills but im not sure its good enough to get to any of their levels especially for Paris.
BAM have a habit of training one good player. That is why we have one good player and the rest so so. Can't blame them also because we dont have enough great quality manpower to spar with them. This issue is not new its been there for ages. The only way is the player himself / herself have their own discipline and dedication to stay in there work harder than the rest and perform. Once you get noticed... the focus will be on you.
Did anyone see the match between the Czech player Jan Louda and Tze Yong at Hylo Open? he was defeated 10 and 7 from a player anyone hardly knows, that’s got to be the worst NTY performance to date.
Yes, if his head was not in the right place, then why turn up, he was as well withdraw, fly back to Malaysia then regroup for the next tournament.
Fatigue. Common because he's been in what? 4-6 tournaments in a row. Not to mention being in plane from Asia to Europe for the past month.
Yep, that’s the likely explanation. Just watched his conqueror losing a bad tempered 3 setter to Christo Popov, the closing stages really niggly with Popov eventually coming through 26-24, at the handshake Popov was clearly upset about the point at 21-20 and Louda’s lack of sportsmanship, angry words and fingering, continued to the umpires chair who incidentally was the one who gave Johannessen a red card yesterday, she tried to diffuse it but Popov was having none of it,it continued as they left the court with the umpire and service judge trying to keep them apart, worth catching the game in YouTube.
Hee..hee..that’s nice to know, she certainly had her work cut out in her last two games. That’s the charm of this forum, due to the diverse international community, we can share info as regards to controversy or tactical talks from coaches etc.
In my opinion it was (Toma junior, who was his opponent btw) Popov and in particular his father who was acting unprofessional, with his father making gestures and shouting what I can only assume was some not very nice words to Louda. No player in the world would act different given the score and how close the shot was to the line (if it was out), and even if they did it’s useless. Players can’t overrule the decision of court officials.
Thanks for clarifying about which Popov, I get them mixed up all the time, I didn’t view it as unprofessional on Louda’s part, just that Popov gesticulated to Louda and pointing to the spot where the shuttle landed, alluding to he knows it was out and should have owned up to which he deemed unprofessional, I can see Louda’s point of view which is to let the officials officiate the game. I do agree what came afterwards from the Popov camp wasn’t nice, especially the father’s sarcastic claps, words and thumbs up in the direction of Louda.
Lost again to big bro. How many times more? 3rd game 16-all, start to make simple mistakes, just like when against VA. NTY really need go to gym starting from today.
Yes, his concentration seems to waver at concluding end of matches, is it fatigue?, I remember I said his “hang dog” demeanour on court meaning he carries himself like very tired breathing through mouth shoulders slumped, but he has improved his fitness in the intervening period, it must be frustrating to seem to hit a bump in your development, the more he loses to big bro, the more it will become a mental block, I hear other Malaysian observers saying he lifts too much, does that mean he’s not reading his opponents shots therefore arriving too late and having to lift?.
Nope. The lifting part is after opponent serve, NTY lift half-court. That's what I meant. He wasted so many points on that. Nothing forced him to lift short, he just liked it. Not only that, mid-rally, he tends to drop more than he attack, allowing opponent to push him to the back of the court all the time. His tournaments should be over by today, so at least a month to train. Hopefully, he improves his stamina and attacking game.
I see, thanks for the insight, I seem to see the same complaint about lifting in YouTube comments, interesting about mid rally intensity drop, must look out for that.
in general, he has problem with stamina.. can slaughtered many top player in early draw and faded in quarter. but recent performance is worrisome
Actually, NTY's performance for the past few tournaments are really good compared to 2022. He reached at least nine quarter finals, a few semi, and one final. The next step is to win a title. It was unlucky that he met Viktor Axelsen and Lee Zii Jia two tournaments in a row.
