not a bad idea to rest her anyway. there is not urgent need to gain points at this stage for either WD or XD. and she did have a tough match in the KO. better withdraw now than to withdrawl just before the final!

    some quite interesting matches there.

Gade vs. Xia - Xia seems to be on the rise now. this will be a closely contested battle. a 3 games match should be advantageous to Xia as he is fitter.

Bao vs. Hafiz - yet another chance for Bao to make even on the crucial TC lost two years ago. and what a way to do it as this will be one of the final nails in the coffin in Hafiz's bid for the Olympics.

LeeHI vs. Roslin - LeeHI hasn't been doing too well lately. i think Roslin might actually have a chance here.

Xia more fit than Gade? really? I agree it will be a close contest, but Gade's fitness has always been one of his strong points. i'm interested to see the results for malaysia's men's doubles pairs... Chan and Chew are very good players, i wonder why they haven't been able to deliver...

lee vs. roslin a disadvantage for roslin? isn't their head to head 2-3 in roslin's favour? but roslin is far more aggressive when he plays lee, plus his really getting into good form while lee hasn't really lived up to his seeding for a while (example when his seeded 2nd at swiss open)

as for bao vs. hafiz, i'm really suprised that hafiz even made it this far, isn't i tradition that he crashes out early???

and i'm bettin on xia beating gade, althoug their head to head is even (2) xia's on a roll and gettin back into form, plus it's a title defense! it's a matter of pride to make it all the way! (well at least until he runs into lin dan in qf, cuz then his out)

Tradition? He is supposed to be playing his best badminton and emerge as one of the stars, improving every day and month but somehow he seems to look shaky. A lenghty lay off from badminton from wrist injury can do a lot of bad to a player, coming back rusty. Before he went out in HK (or was it Taiwan?), he was playing ok, some quarterfinals et al.

He needs to get that stride back, that consistency, that passion to climb back and challenge for honours. I'm sure his confidence had taken a severe blow from his exits at AE and getting KO-ed in Korea, not to mention his hopes of going to Athens getting more and more remote by the minute, as well as loses to unheralded players, I'd say he'll need lots of time to climb back. And fast, before he becomes another forgotten fringe player.

Still, he is unlikely to put one over Bao in this one although the lanky Chinese himself had been bested by Dicky Palyama in Korea.

    Who knows? ;)

March of the Indons in MD; Decimation of the Malaysians

All four Indonesian pairs advanced to the last eight.

    Sigit/Trikush defeated Choong/Lee 5-15, 17-16, 15-12 (very close)
All other last 16 matches are in straight games.
    Last 8 line-up

    Paaske/Rasmussen v Limpele/Eng Hian
    Fu/Cai v Lee/Yoo Yung Sung
    Sigit/Trikush v Alven/Luluk
    Candra/Halim v Kim/Ha

I predict an all-Indon final. I think only Fu/Cai can change that.

    Chinese resignation in the WD

In the match with 3 Zhangs and 1 Yang,
Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen bt. Zhang Dan/Zhang Yawen 15-5, 8-6 retired.

The top half is for Wei Yili/Zhao Tingting to take.
The bottom half will very probably pit Yang/Zhang against Ra/Lee in the semifinal.
