Lee Chong Wei ( 李宗伟 )

Don't be a jerk if you don't appreciate him.
i'm a fan of, and respect, his skill and his accomplishments. i am not a fan of his attitude.
He has worked his bone off to help BAM for 18 years already.
bam has poured more money into him than any other player over the last 18 years.
He doesn't complain even once before this.
that does not mean he has 'earned' a right to complain now.
If you doesn't mind, care to treat other person with respect.
do you mean like he is treating morten frost through the press right now?

again, i am a fan of his skills and accomplishments. that does not mean i have to like everything about him.
i am not a fan of his attitude. that does not mean i will dislike everything he does.

i call it the carolina marin syndrome. i don't like her attitude, but i'll pay to watch her play in a ss tournament.

helix99, don't feel like you have to defend lcw or be offended on his behalf. that road leads to fighting the internet... a no win battle for everyone that tries. if you don't like what i write, ignore me.

interesting discussions here over LCW's issue with MF. :)
Actually this discussion has been going on for a while, in the more "niche" threads on the forum.

Take this post in the thread "Is BAM Going in the Right Direction".

Two things worth noticing:

1)
Other single players complain over LCW's position has damaged their chance of development, and that a coach having only 4 players to look after, disregarded 3 of them to work mainly with LCW.

2)
Morten Frost goes out publicly and defends said coach (and thus LCW). As the team player he is, the press is not the place to handle any disputes.

It's not like this guy is a nobody. He was a genuine talent back when he won the Asia Youth Championships. Why he hasn't made it past #50 since then I don't know, and it's possible he's only venting his frustrations over not achieving his potential. But it's an interesting article nevertheless.

Frost says player must be more consistent to go far

Soo Teck Zhi is one of the members getting ready for the Thomas Cup qualifiers.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Asian junior champion Soo Teck Zhi (pic) must learn to take the bull by the horns.

“I believe that Teck Zhi has been given plenty of chances to come good in this sport ... it’s up to him to take his chances well,” said the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost.

“He has pointed out some reasons why he has not been doing well. I don’t think it’s anybody fault. He just has to take his chances, utilise it and make the best of it.”

A day before crashing out of the National Grand Prix Finals at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara on Friday, the 21-year-old Teck Zhi had listed several reasons for the drop in his world ranking – from No. 50 to No. 96

Among them were the lack of a proper training programme and how his coach, Tey Seu Bock, was more focused on world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei most of the times.

Besides Teck Zhi, Seu Bock is also in charge of Lim Chi Wing and Soong Joo Ven.

At the national meet, Chi Wing put up a stunning show to upset defending champion Chong Wei Feng to reach the men’s singles semi-finals.

Frost defended Seu Bock, saying “he has done well as a coach”.

“Seu Bock has only four players under him. It shouldn’t be too difficult to focus on each of them. He is an experienced coach and has done well so far,” said Frost.

“I agree that some of the coaches gave their best for Chong Wei ahead of his preparation for the Olympics. It’s back to normal now.”

On Teck Zhi’s potential, Frost believes that the youngster could go far “if he cuts down on his inconsistency.”

“He has this peculiarity in his game. On a good day, he can be a very fast and aggressive player. He can be dangerous to play against. But, when he’s not at his best, it’s horrible to watch him play,” said Frost.

“We will talk to him and look into his needs. Ultimately, we want him to be consistent and become an awfully good player.”

I don't see any Malaysian singles player win a medal at the next Olympics, especially not in the MS. Hard times for MF. If LCW retires, he will leave a big big drought.

Wow!, even paperwork and flight bookings will be done by Hendrawan. That's interesting.
Yes. From that, can we assume all the personal admin with regards to tournament planning will be done by the special squad itself and not by BAM? A separate unit within BAM? Nobody else to angry with except for his own team. And now, LCW has his own responsibility to train up the next generation to success. After all, since now he has his own squad, it would be reasonable for BAM to expect something back in return.

In essence, Morten Frost has given up on MS.

The five MS players mentioned to be on the "special project" are not the full MS squad. Does someone with knowledge of the whole squad could situate them?

2 different MS squad in the BAM camp seems to be a productive idea. Having a group of players in the special project could motivate the remaining MS players in the camp to do better if they want to convince Hendrawan to include them in this special squad.

However, IMHO, It is more better and functional to increase Hendrawan role in the decision making authority especially in any issues relating to the coaching structure so that he would not need to inform and wait for the consent from the CNT comitee on how and what he wants to do with his players ......... rather then been given more administrative work..... like filling forms, booking flights.....which is very unlikely can improve Iskandar playing consistency.

SS

Seeing him play with high emotion level, Iskandar inconsistency is more likely in between his ears, ie. psychological. Not sure how soon and how much that can be improved.
MF should also proposed Hendrawan to go for Yoga classes also so that he can be a Yoga trainer and then can systematically integrate his coaching structure with Yoga and tailor this when training with Iskandar.....:):):)

Somehow, I felt that the main job for those MS in the special squad is to be a machine to LCW.. to spar with him, do what he wants the person standing opposite him to do. That wont do any good to them at all but just continuously feeding LWC with shots to smash and net and all sorts of tricks. By the time LCW is done with them and retire, all of them will have no achievements under their own belt too, because all they can do is to feed shuttle to opponents to smash nicely. This is so unfair to them. Yes, they get to travel alot with LCW as he needs a lot a lot a lot of people to spar and warm up with him and he always said that he is lonely, alone in his room after his room mate left, mostly after quarter finals, and since now that he gets to decide, he will have a bunch of people to accompany him wherever he goes. Its a waste of taxpayer's money though.

Be it those players in the special project or not, to those who train with DLCW, they themselves should realize that it is not DLCW or Hendrawan that will and can mould them to be a better player other than themselves.

Once upon a time in a hall not far away, many many years back during the time when Datuk Misbun was DLCW coach,, a player named Chan Kwong Beng bravely accept to be the sparring partner to DLCW which then eventually was kicked out by DMS because he was lazy.

Big (badminton) news in Denmark. Viktor Axelsen (World number 3) and Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus (World number 13) have a podcast called: Serve and Smash.

Todays subject was Lee Chong Wei and both players quickly agreed that he was 1 of the most unsympathetic and arrogant players in badminton. In the podcast they share stories of encounters with Lee Chong Wei - and their reasons for disliking him. Victor Axelsen tells that if Lee Chong Wei has the chance, he will try and hit the man when smashing (especially smashes close to the net) and that he always tries to humiliate his opponent most humanly possible - even when leading comfortably.

Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus shares a story from a training Camp in Malaysia where Lee Chong Wei forced some of the other players to wipe his sweat off the court and generally having a really bad attitude towards the younger players on the national training team.

not surprised... and this is coming from other players/people who have had first hand professional interactions w/ lcw, rather than only armchair fanboys typing into a discussion forum.
