    What A Place

I am an oldtimer who's travelled quite a bit (and still do).
I'm yet to come across a culture or community in which cheating the other guy ('taking advantage' is a more polite term) isn't part of the daily life strategy. My response is to take precautions and protect myself.
    Cab-drivers are just one example.
In regulated metered areas (like the US, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore), they try to take you longer distances. In unregulated metered areas (like Thailand, Cambodia, the UK), they get you to ingore the meter and agree beforehand on a higher fare. In unregulated non-metered areas (like Sri Lanka, India), they bargain like wolves or target another less-miserly passenger.
Ultimately, it's all about your choice. You can get cheated or not depending on how you approach a situation.
Look at the contrast between, say, Singapore and India.
Singapore is heavily regulated - people form queues, every action is spelt out in Black & White, it's clean, services like power, transport, water and internet are always available and the administration is responsive to complaints. However, all these come at a high price. Just ensure that you have plenty of money.
India is quite the opposite. But you can get along with almost no money.
The point is that a spic-and-span enviroment doesn't necessarily mean that one place is better than the other. It also has a lot to do with the enjoyment level, with how people tend to go about their daily routines. In general, I see more smiles in a poorer, less regulated country. Perhaps it has something to do with being allowed to live on one's own terms rather than the terms of the state.
Malaysia is as good a place as Australia or the UK. Queues, cabbie honesty and pavement braille belong to the community. Smiles belong to people.

Sorry to all who have felt upset about what has been said of Kuala Lumpur but that's what I just feel about the city after being there for sometime. Im just hoping that it is taken positively and reflected upon instead of completely denying it.

    Cheers,
    Speed & Power

    Images of KL

I have caught some images of KL during my trips there mainly for watching badminton in KLBA Cheras. This time I will go back to Bt Jalil again, the last time I went there was during the Thomas Cup, some years ago.

KL has impressive buildings and highways as you will be able to see from some of these pictures:

Visitor to KL should not miss KLCC

KLCC is a showcase of modern Malaysia, with property values very much on the high end. The Twin Towers is Malaysia's icon and is well recognized worldwide.

Some pics also from my album:

There are things in KL (Malaysia) that looks good from the outside but actually rotten in the inside.
