It's so depressing that 24 vs 25 is old guard vs old guard ;P

    tks kwun...

it's gonna be an interesting match and hopefully both put up their best.. good job for chen hong, bt even greater performance from xia for reaching the final albeit he has a smoother journey to the final... all i m saying, ever since lifting the world c'ship trophy, xia ws really out of touch (be it injury or othr aspects), a little worried tht he might be another Ji Xinpeng... kudos to both...

nah. the only person who can be considered Ji Xinpeng would be Hafiz. unfortunate that Xia got injured, but hopefully he will regain his form. perhaps even a good thing to not peak too early. Olympics is what everybody is aiming for this year. everything else seems to be immaterial.

imho, the best players from China for the Olympics is ChenH, Xia and Lin.

omg. Zhang Ning just beat GongRN 11:7, 11:3 in 17mins!

true, with Bao CL under-performance lately, Xia hs good chance to be one of the chn candidates for olympics...

17 mins ousting Gong RN?? thts something considering she picked up the two continuous titles last month...

    yes. a rare match indeed!

last time they met was Singapore 2002, and before that was Thailand 1999. both occasions Chen won. but those are such a long time ago i doubt the historical record will hold any weight. i too hope to watch the match myself!

yeah. watched the match of Bao vs. Lin in the Swiss Open. Bao has good techniques, but he doesn't have the purpose and fire of other players. some like to compare him to Zhao JinHua but imho, there isn't much similarity aside from the left-handedness and the height.

despite getting quite fond of GongRN's game style recently, i think her retrieve retrieve style will not bold very well with a tall, fast, accurate and deceptive player like Zhang. even the great GongZC whom i think is above GongRN in all departments isn't the match for the same style player Ye Zhaoying.

works very well against impatient players like Camilla and unfit players like Mia though. GongRN should definitely be included in the Olympics.

agree, Bao dsnt have a tough mentality a fighter shd have and get frustrated easily... many of his loses is due more in this aspect thn physical or technical.. he has the skill and i must say he is a talented player

the 1st time i saw him play ws in s'pore open 3 yrs back, having big lead ovr Wong CH bt eventually lost the match... my impression, his style is a little like Morten Frost bt with better attack.. lacked patience and accuracy whr some of his smashes are way way out... he ws so skinny and looked very 'fragile' thn, each time he smashed, it seemed he ws going to break some bones :)

    Dont forget Gopichand.

I think they first surprised with unorthodox styles but never changed after opponents studied them in detail.

I like the way Bao plays, too bad he is not tough enough. His strokes are smooth, footwork is good (probably better one among Chinese players) but lack strength. Fast recovery seemed to be his trouble sometime ago, not sure now. Hope something happen (similar to Yang Yang, all of sudden started to play really well) to him and make him play more confidently.

On the other hand, Zhang Ning seems to be the better technical player in the Chinese ladies squad. I have not seen her playing for a long long time (hopefully get a recent game of hers). Her strokes are well covered (camouflaged) and not easily anticipated by her opponent. If she is fit I believe she is currently the best Chinese ladies singles player.

This will make the TC much much more interesting. I would say China and Indonesia have more evenly balanced singles and doubles matches. Wow :D
