    Indonesian stint for Lee

    By K.M. Boopathy

    2011/02/17

LEE Chong Wei will join forces with friend and rival Taufik Hidayat at the SGS PLN Bandung club when he competes in the Indonesian Badminton Super League in Surabaya on Feb 20-26.
However, Chong Wei will only play on the last two days of the league since he will be defending his National Grand Prix title in Kuala Terengganu between tomorrow and Monday.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Kenny Goh confirmed Chong Wei's entry for the league and said the shuttler has been seeking permission for the last two weeks after being invited by Taufik.

"Chong Wei will be competing in the Indonesian Super League after the National GP Finals. Chong Wei said he wanted to help Taufik and his club to win the league," said Goh.

"He has promised that his training will not be affected as he will only play two matches."

Taufik had mentioned two weeks ago that SGS Bandung had tried to lure Chong Wei and China's Lin Dan but were unable to secure their services.

However, Taufik's good relationship with Chong Wei not only attracted the World No 1 but will now also make SGS Bandung favourites in the men's team championship.

Bandung's other notable players are Tommy Sugiarto and Alamsyah Yunus in the singles while Flandy Limpele-Hendra Gunawan and Singapore's Hendra Wijaya-Chaiyut Triyachart will boost the doubles.

Two other Malaysians -- Hafiz Hashim and Wong Choong Hann -- will play for Musica Champions Kudus coached by former world champion Haryanto Arbi.

Defending champions Jayaraya Suryanaga Surabaya, who won the inaugural league in 2007, are among the title contenders while Djarum Kudus, Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta, Jaya Raya Jakarta and Mutiara Bandung are the other clubs vying for the title.

Chong Wei's involvement in the Indonesia Super League makes him the only top class player who will be competing in two professional leagues abroad. He is also also down to play in the China League for Guangzhou after next month's All England. Doubles player Koo Kien Keat will be the first to see action in the China league as he will represent Guangzhou when the league begins today.

Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong were supposed to play for Guangzhou but the latter qualified for the National Grand Prix Finals with Hoon Thien How.

The China league is lucrative as players are expected to earn as much as RM50,000 per match with foreign players or pairs expected to play up to four matches throughout the league.

PB Mutiara With Their Young Shuttlers

Jakarta - Headquartered in Cipedes, a corner in the middle of City Flowers, Bandung, PB Mutiara can never stop creating the superior seeds for Indonesian badminton. Indeed the club was officially established in 1967. PB Mutiara is a regeneration of the Blue White club founded by textile businessman, Guan Soey in the 1950s.
With a sturdy stand after more than 60 years, several names had been born through PB Mutiara , including one of the legends of premises, Tan Joe Hoek. In addition, several big names such as Ivanna Lie, Christian Hadinata, Imelda Wiguna, Tjun Tjun, Emma Ermawati and Atu Rosalina could savor the hard training at this club which is uses blue uniform.

In the arena of Djarum Superliga Badminton 2007 , PB Mutiara managed to escape from qualifying. They also taste the severity of main round. Until they had to be stopped in that round, and was unable to go further. This year, they bring their big name club, performing with their young leaves, most still are under 21 years.

They held out the names Geby Ristiani and Dwi Agustiawati who now practice in Cipayung and become a second tier of Pelatnas team. Plus Ayu Rachmasari who had felt the severity of Pelatnas in the year 2010, also will take part in the Djarum Superliga Badminton 2011. Indonesian Grand Prix runner-up Gold, Cheng Shao Chieh will help strengthen the women's singles number, plus the last athletes who entered squad is foreign athletes from Taipei, Chiang Pei Sin.

"The opportunity to become champions quite difficult for us, but that does not mean we will surrender, we will fight tooth and nail plus we want to give experience to compete for our athletes," said Umar Jaini during a press conference Djarum Superliga Badminton some time ago.

Meanwhile, in doubles, the power they are equipped with several loan athletes. They will compete with young athletes who are alrady familiar in the class of taruna, Wisnu Yuli, who borrowed from PB Surya Baja, they also rely Febriyan Irfanaldy that ever strengthen Singapore's national team, but never wanted to change his nationality.

The strength of young people will be forged in Surabaya, how far they can go? We wait for next week.

Sony would give up Badminton forever because of his serious injury?

    .
So sorry that Sony is still unable to recover from his injury.

If we don't find Sony returning by the end of this year (2011), then I would guess that Sony would give up Badminton forever because of his serious injury.:eek::eek:

Jaya Raya, Djarum Bring Local Flavor to The Court

While other teams have beefed up their rosters with international shuttlers, Djarum Kudus and Jaya Raya are banking on homegrown talent for the upcoming Indonesian Badminton Super League.

For Central Java side Djarum, at least, the decision to rely on local players was a matter of necessity after it failed to land any big-name foreign talent.

“All the negotiations failed because the shuttlers we approached already had full schedules,” Yoppy Rosimin, the head of Djarum and also the league chairman, said on Thursday.

“So we decided to rely on our local players.”

For its men’s team, Djarum will run out several shuttlers who are regulars at international events, including Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in men’s singles and former national men’s doubles pair Rian Sukmawan and Yonatan Suryatama Dasuki.

Maria Febe Kusumastuti and Fransisca Ratnasari, the country’s top-ranked women’s shuttlers, are also on Yoppy’s squad.

“I believe the team will be competitive,” Yoppy said, “Having played against some of the world’s top players, that experience will benefit our younger shuttlers.”

Jaya Raya chairwoman Retno Kustijah said the Jakarta club made the decision to go with an all-Indonesian roster.

The Jaya Raya Foundation agreed not to recruit foreign players,” she said. “We’re proud of our players who have been with our club from an early age.”

At the other end of the scale, Jakarta club Tangkas Alfamart has the most foreign players with eight. Its men’s team features Vietnamese ace Nguyen Tien Minh Nguyen, Kashyap Parupalli of India and Malaysians Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shen.

Its women’s side has three Taiwanese players — Chen Hsiao Huan, Cheng Wen Hsing and Chang Hsin Yun — and world No. 9 Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong.

Surabaya club Suryanaga Jaya Raya confirmed that it had struck a deal with women’s singles shuttler Yao Jie, and women’s pair Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei of Singapore.

Yao Jie, a Dutch player born in China, is ranked No. 14 in the world, while Sari and Yao are ranked No. 10.

Djarum takes on Jaya Raya in the men’s opener at Surabaya’s DBL Arena on Sunday, while the women will kick off with Jaya Raya and Tangkas.

Djarum is going to play 2 ties tomorrow. So, I think they will probably field their second team to face Jaya Raya and their main team to face Jaya Raya Suryanaga.

    Possible matches:
MS1 - Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka vs Hu Yun -- tough for Hayom to beat Hu Yun. If he does, I think Djarum will have a good chance of winning the overall tie.
MD1 - (possibly) Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki vs Alvent Yulianto Chandra/Rian Agung Saputro (?) - This is gonna be another difficult tie.
MS2 - Andre Kurniawan Tedjono vs Chan Yan Kit - this is one tie that Djarum has to win at all costs!
MD2 - Mohd Ahsan/Fran Kurniawan Teng vs Tri Kusharyanto/Tri Kusuma Wardhana (?) - also another one that Djarum's players have to deliver.
MS3 - Bandar Sigit Pamungkas vs Adnan Fauzi - I think Djarum is going for the experienced player to deliver here, if the tie is tied at 2-2.

Anyway, I think either team is going to win 3-2. If Djarum is to win, they have to win MS2, MD2, and either MD1 or MS3. If Hayom does beat Hu Yun (and that's gonna be a positive result for Hayom), it will make things easier.

Riyanto Subagja and probably Shesar Hiren Rhustavito could be fielded against Jaya Raya (with their relatively weak singles: Adi Pratama, Hermansyah, and Ichwan Noor Yudha).

Djarum's possible line-up against Jaya Raya:
MS1 - Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka vs Adi Pratama - it's important for Hayom to get a practice match before the big match in the evening.
MD1 - Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan vs Candra Wijaya/Joko Riyadi - Jaya Raya might want to win this one but it's important to give match experience to Rendy/Afiat as well.
MS2 - Riyanto Subagja vs Hermansyah - a battle of two youngsters.
MD2 - Mohd Ahsan/Fran Kurniawan Teng vs Agripinna Prima/Bona Septano
MS3 - Nugroho Andri Saputro or Shesar Hiren Rhustavito vs Ichwan Noor Yudha

I think Djarum should win this one.
