Suryanaga women win Superleague The Jakarta Post, Surabaya Wahyoe Boediwardhana, | Sat, 02/26/2011 1:31 PM | Sports | The women’s team from the Jaya Raya Suryanaga Surabaya badminton club produced a sixth consecutive win to bring home the trophy and gold medal at the Djarum Indonesian Superleague 2011 by defeating Jaya Raya Jakarta 3-0 at the DBL Sports Arena in Surabaya on Friday. Apart from the trophy and gold medals, the winners were also awarded total prize money of Rp 275 million (US$31,000). The runner up pocketed Rp 150 million and third-place Djarum Kudus took home Rp 100 million. The first three single players from Jaya Raya Suryanaga won their matches, leaving the final two matches a mere formality. In the first game, Dutch player Yao Jie came back from a late warm up to beat Bellaetrix Manuputty 19-21, 21-16, 21-11. Bellaetrix said after the match that her lack of experience made her surrender to the world number 14. “I made a lot of mistakes after the first match. I think my lack of experience showed,” Bellaetrix, ranked 136 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), said. Chinese-born Yao, who has been playing for the Netherlands since 2000, admitted that the first game was tough, but Bellaetrix made lots of errors in the next two games allowing her the chance to win. Yao said the first game was quite difficult as she was on the bench the previous day preparing for the final. She said she felt nervous because she was expected to win the first match for her club. Suryanaga Surabaya manager Wijanarko Adi Mulya said he had prepared to go to five matches, but that fortunately his team swept all the first three matches. In the second and third matches, Lindaweni beat Rena Suwarno and Aprillia Yuswandari beat Rizky Amalia. Wijarnako, however, claimed his team would have won the last two scrapped matches anyway. He said he had planned to send in world number 10 doubles pair Yao and Singaporean Shinta Muliasari to face Greysia Polii and Nadya Melati, and Lindaweni and Aprillia Yuswandari. Jaya Raya Jakarta manager Sigit Pamungkas said his opponent’s strategy was a gamble that paid off. “They seemed to be so sure that they could win the single matches,” Sigit said. In the men’s game, SGS PLN Bandung face Suryanaga Surabaya in Saturday’s final. SGS PLN Bandung beat Musica Champion Kudus 4-1, while Suryanaga Surabaya advanced to the final despite losing to Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta 2-3. Suryanaga booked its berth in the final as it collected more points than the Jakarta-based club. SGS PLN Bandung team manager Herman Zubarjah said his team would capitalize in the first three singles matches through Lee Chong Wei, Taufik Hidayat and Tomi Sugiarto. The third place playoff will see Djarum Kudus face Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta.
