None of them have big match temperament. Kashyap choked and didn't get a WC bronze some years ago.

He had plenty of opportunities to get WC medals after that. He never got one because he lacks big match temperament.

Srikanth KIdambi, HS Prannoy, Sameer Verma had Gopichand but didn't get a single medal as senior players. All these players have the talent and should have earned multiple medals.

Lakshya Sen earned multiple junior medals without Vimal Kumar. When Lakshya missed a medal attempt in his first WJC attempt he didn't blame Vimal Kumar's absence. Lakshya always blamed himself when he lost a match.

Attitude and mindset of players also matters. I am not asking for gold just a bronze medal! :)

South Asian Games 2019 in Nepal. India take 2 Gold in Mens and Womens team events. The individual events start today.
Srikanth Kidambi was a replacement for Sourabh Verma. Srikanth Kidambi struggled to win and needed 3 games(17-21, 21-15,21-11) against Dinuka Karunaratne . Shows the level of his confidence and form. Sri Lanka has an INA doubles coach and they have improved a lot as a team. Our doubles pairs lost a match and had to work hard in the 2nd to win.(mens team)

Interesting that they let Krishnaprasad Garaga to play Singles in semifinals against Pakistan. And he won it in straight games.
Srikanth winning Dinuka in 3 games !. His form is way low now, such that he could not return to his original form asap. Only god can save him.

That was a risky move as Garaga only plays doubles, the scores were close and he could have lost! There are doubles players who play singles as well but not him. Srikanth remains a disappointment, the door to Tokyo is slowly closing.

Krishna Prasad Garaga was forced to play singles in semis as Srikanth Kidambi was reluctant to play. Srikanth didn't want to play individual events as well. They should have picked another singles player instead of him.

No Indian WD pair makes the finals of SAG 2019. If India can't compete at the regional level, how can we expect to them to perform on the BWF circuit? WD continues to be our weakest department and shows no signs of improving.

All the good WD players are keen to play singles and abandon WD between 16-18. They just play WD to improve their singles game.

Agreed. But Manisha/Sikki and Kuhoo/Anoushka winning bronze medals. All 4 players are doubles players and playing it since many years. Shouldn't they have shown more maturity and willingness to win ? It's a sad and deplorable state of badminton here. If Sindhu wins something big, federation will have something to show " oh let's see we're doing so well. " #IndiaOnTheRise bullshit hashtags. And what happened to Dhruv/Arjun and Shlok/Krishna partnership . Are Dhruv/Krishna partnered again ?
Now this is questionable. Reason for reluctancy of Srikanth is not known. Neither had he been burnt out nor is there any injury news. If "I dont want to play" attitude is there, then I have nothing to say. Just bollocks of all this. Struggling against Karunaratne hmm bye bye Olympics spot. I kinda feel sad for our players, some of them will miss sightseeing in Tokyo in July August but the same players will have an opportunity to sight seeing of Tokyo when they'll go to play Japan Open too bad no other hungry players are yet to be seen to replace these tourists.

Dhruv Kapila/Kriahna Prasad Garaga was just a temporary partnership for this tournament I think.

After SAG success, young shuttler Ashmita Chaliha eyes good show in PBL, top 50 spot
The 20-year-old from Assam was recently crowned the women's singles champion at the ongoing South Asian Games in Nepal, one of the biggest achievements of her fledgling career.

NEW DELHI: Brimming with confidence after winning double gold at the 13th South Asian Games, India's Ashmita Chaliha says she wants to break into the world's top 50 next year and is hoping to make a mark at the upcoming Premier Badminton League.

The 20-year-old from Assam was recently crowned the women's singles champion at the ongoing South Asian Games in Nepal, one of the biggest achievements of her fledgling career.

Ashmita could not live up to her expectations this season after being left on the sidelines due to injury.

But the double gold she won at the South Asian Games has boosted her confidence.

"This year, 2019 has been more of downs than ups for me. I was recovering from an injury so I couldn't perform well in my tournaments. But of late, gradually I've gained my momentum leading to my win in Jodhpur All India Rankings, which is also my first title of the year," she said.

"Also, my team (India) and I recently won a couple of gold medals in the South Asian Games in Nepal.

"So, with this, I've learnt that patience & persistence are the key that make an unbeatable combination for success. I believe that the only thing that matters apart from hard work is to have faith and believe in oneself."

A first-round win at the Super 300 Syed Modi International tournament propelled the former World No. 87 back into the top 100 and the confident girl has now set her sights on breaking into the top 50.

"It feels great to break back and be in the top 100 of the BWF rankings. But I know this is not it, I really have to keep working hard as I aim to break into the top 50 of the world rankings," she said.

Ashmita is now itching to rub shoulders with the top shuttlers of world badminton at the Premier Badminton League, scheduled to begin on January 20, where she will make her debut for the North Eastern Warriors.

"I'm really looking forward to playing with some of the best players in the world and take as much experience as I can from the matches I would get to play," said the Guwahati shuttler.

The North East team includes former top 10 shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, former Olympic gold medallist Lee Yong Dae, and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Michelle Li.

"Well, as a team, I'm sure we are going to do well as we have some really good international players in our team like Tanongsak, Lee Yong Dae, Michelle Li and many other star players," Ashmita said.

Last year, she gave a sheer display of her immense talent when she conquered the Dubai International Challenge and the Tata Open International Challenge.

The fast-rising shuttler wants to use the PBL platform to pick up skills from her world-class teammates among whom are former top 10 shuttler, Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, former Olympic gold medallist Lee Yong Dae, and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Michelle Li.

Hearing from Jwala after a long time.

    https://www.thehindu.com/sport/othe...ower-in-gopichand-academy/article30269022.ece

We need a complete overhaul in doubles, says Jwala Gutta
    Rakesh Rao
    NEW DELHI 10 DECEMBER 2019 20:54 IST

Echoing the growing murmurs in the Indian badminton circles, doubles specialist Jwala Gutta has questioned the centralisation of badminton power in Gopichand Academy and how the conflict of interest involving Gopi has not been made a talking point.

“He (Gopi) is the Chief coach, Chief selector, owns his coaching academy, holds the posts of District Association president, secretary of Telangana Association, he is part of Khelo India, Premier Badminton League, TOP scheme, GoSports Foundation etc. It’s all on paper, not my imagination. So if there is conflict of interest, ask questions,” she asked mediapersons soon after the launch of Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence here on Tuesday.

Questioning the idea behind holding the National camps only at the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, Jwala said, “I have attended camps at many places such as Bangalore, Jalandhar, and after 2006, it has only been happening at the Gopichand Academy. Personally, I had no problems since I live there, but it is not fair. Why camps only in Hyderabad?”

Raising the pitch, Jwala asked, “Tell me how many Telugu players are there in Indian team? Are you trying to tell me that in last 10 years India couldn’t produce a non-Telugu player to play for the country, Even people who are non-Telugu, they are playing for Telangana state.”

Asked if she believed that playing for Gopichand Academy was seen as a passport to get into the Indian teams at various levels, Jwala said, “I don’t think so.”

Responding to a question pertaining to Gopi’s recent comment that he had no authority, Jwala said, “when I read that interview, I had a laugh. How could anyone, who built the system since 2006 and stays in charge even to this day, complain of not having authority?”

Presently on the junior selection panel, Jwala said, “I can’t think of one doubles player with whom I want to play today. I think is we need a complete overhaul in doubles. We need a different ecosystem for doubles, that how doubles will come up. Doubles doesn’t need just a coach right now. It needs correction in the administration of doubles. The whole system is wrong in doubles now.”

Earlier, the Jwala’s Academy of Excellence was launched by former Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, in the presence of Olympic medallists Sushil Kumar and Vijender Singh, besides Jwala and her father, Kranti.

The 55-acre Academy, located about 30 minutes drive from Gopichand Academy, is expected to a world-class facility. It is expected to begin operations in the next couple of months. With a tie-up with Sujata School, 100 residential slots are also available. With 14 badminton courts under the supervision of Dronacharya Awardee Mohammad Arif, the Academy begins operations with badminton before opening up other disciplines.

Jwala said, “my role will be that of a mentor and obviously, I want to focus more on doubles. Since I am not trained to coach, I will be help the children by sharing my experience. There will be a lot of work since I will be dealing with parents, coaches, children and looking after every aspect that makes my Academy different from the rest. One more thing is sure. I will pay my coaches well and look after them.”

Another one from her. She has guts to confront the wrongdoings and has been very vocal throughout her career.

Jwala Gutta: why actors, choose sportspersons as NADA ambassador

India’s top doubles player Jwala Gutta feels the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) should have appointed a sportsperson as its brand ambassador instead of Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty.

Suniel Shetty was on Tuesday unveiled as the brand ambassador of NADA with the country’s anti-doping body hoping that his celebrity status will help its efforts to clean up sports in the country from the menace.

“According to me, a sportsperson should be made the brand ambassador of NADA,” said Jwala on the sidelines of the launch of her Academy of Excellence here.

“I do not know why we get attracted to actors. It’s time that we make a sports person the ambassador for NADA. It is an important organisation for sports, so according to me a sportsperson should be the ideal choice.”

Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Vijender Singh said a sports persons could have been a good choice but was okay with Shetty getting the role.

“It is a good thing. It is a sports body so a sports person like Sushil could have been the ambassador but Anna (Shetty) has been made and he is a fitness freak guy and I know him and wish him good luck.”

NADA Director General Navin Agarwal had said on Monday that Shetty’s celebrity status will give him more “clout” and “reach” than a former or a current sportsperson.

“We thought that an actor of the status of Suniel Shetty will be able to send out message to shun doping, that doping is not good for themselves and for the country. We felt that celebrities will have more outreach to the masses of the country as they have a lot of following,” Agarwal said.

All India GS u15 final between no.1 seed Tasnim Mir and Tara Shah tomorrow in Asia u15 and u17 championship. I wonder why Sankar Muthusamy, Pranav Rao Gandham and Sai Vishnu Pullela didn't play. Couldn't find the basis of selection of the squad. Checked TS. Last time national u15 and u17 tournament was conducted in July .
