This one also from April has a picture of your stroke. It shows your elbow not leading very well and the open face of the racquet. Granted at that time we were focussing more on the body coordination of your stroke.
What about dry swings at home? Like repeating over and over some overhead strokes with the right grip/chain of actions?
He has done hours of those in his basement and outside his garage... with some initial improvement from his beginner strokes. But I think now he needs to strike shuttles in order to note and feel for effective and proper pronation and whipping effect. The problem with muscular beginners is that they just depend on their physicality and get away with inefficient (improper) technique, such that it can be quite difficult to change. Great job ! I sub a few months back and when YT shows your videos i do watch them! Had a question: When the opp hit a clear and he went back to retrieve it . Should his stance at that Point been racket foot forward so he can control both front and back court and made a smoother shot then what he did ?
Good stuff! Two things I have noted from that clip; Opponents lifts to your half of the court aren't reaching the back. That might be something you have to adjust to if you play vs different clubs and the opponents are able to clear consistently to the back line. Some of your footwork puts you noticeably off-balance. I saw this at 3:09, 2:41 and 5:48 so you get what I mean. Use the final step / lunge you do and stay balanced during and after the shot.
Thank you. Those two guys we played against are in the top 5 players at my club so that’s pretty much the best I can play against
That’s a good questions , I think it depends on how good of a clear it is and what shot you think the opponent is I’ll play next.
Make sure when you lunge towards the shuttle that you point your toes in the same direction as your knee bends. This will help with balance, as mentioned above, but most important is that it will prevent injury. I am genuinely scared whenever I see you lunge like 0:49-0:52. You can see right after that your weight wants to roll your ankle as your heel lifts from the floor.
I think you are doing too many (small) steps instead of hops/lunge making you slow to react to the shuttle. Plus you are hardly in a stable position after a shot, preventing you to make a split step (if any)
I disagree , I know I have improved over the last 2 months even if it’s 1 or 2% and there is still a lot more that I can improve on…for example , if I dedicated time to practice footwork a few days per week I know I would be better. although I know that if I had a coach I would make drastic and much faster changes
Also another example, I cannot backhand clear , that would add another layer of improvement to my game. My smash defense isn’t solid and I could improve that to be move better too
