LD withdrawal/walkover was expected after JOJ withdrew. LD was there to make sure that the CO MS title stay in china. he is no longer interested in SS title anymore but he is a teamplayer and will help his team mates when needed.

Paper tigers are only good for show. Toothless tigers also do not bite.
Rules and by-laws are only good when they are enforced.

China has a reputation of 'managing' their sportsmen in, perhaps, unethical ways. They are not unduly troubled in 'requesting' any of their athletes to withdraw from a game in order to advance the career of another. In this instant LD had just come from a very successful AG campaign and so LYB probably thought it was better for him to 'rest' and give young CL a chance to feature in a final.

It has happened before in other sports in which China dominates - most notably table tennis - and it will probably happen again.

    off topic:
..the new rule of "group play", for MD, in the next OG (2012) will have essentially the max. amount of matches as the Singles events (which have a max. of 6 matches) if a pair/player wants to be crowned as champion. Or creating R64 but only fielding 16 pairs. Since, in the past, the MD event starts at R16, the new format of the MD will add 2 additional matches. The only other difference is that 2 pairs/players will get a chance to advance to the "real" knock-out rounds.

BWF must take action and tell the fans why he gave a walk over. There must be a good valid reason for doing so; so that this precedent doesn't happen again. If LD can act, so be it. At least he tried. ;)
