hehe a little bit off topic, but what you are lacking is something called teamwork;)

singles and doubles, its down to personal preference. some people like the faster pace of the game, some people prefer the more tactical play in singles.

to severely injure someone with your smash, either you'd have to hit it into the back of their head from the back court, or they turned around and looked backwards, and u hit it in their face. or of course, you could have hit them (anywhere) with ur racquet during your swing. Maybe you shouldn't be chasing every ball into every corner? well, there isplently of info about how to play doubles properly around so if u do want to enjoy your doubles, it might be worth looking around. ps, when you are 50 and having declining stamina, i think you'll be enjoying competitive doubles more than competitive singles:p

    Their result this year:

9 tournaments: 3 titles including All England 2005, 1 runner up, 1 SF, 3 Quarter Final and 1 Round 16 plus 1 Sudirman Cup where they never lost. I don't know what it called if this is not called consistent.

Only Chandra/Sigit and Jens E/Martin LH probably be more consistent than them. Even Chandra/Sigit lost in Round 16 in Hong Kong Open from British pair. But they won 4 titles and 4 runner up. And thats what put them on first ranking with the Danish on second and Cai/Fu on third.

Not to mention that Men Doubles is the most competitive matches where lots pairs had pretty much the same qualities.

Everything is relative. I should have said "relatively speaking", Fu/Cai are not consistent. When they play their best, no one can beat them. When they don't, just about anyone can.

Fu/Cai are fast and furious but they don't have the technical skills of some of the others you mentioned.

    Just an observation. :)

Ha ha, you did it! Must have been pretty nervous though - an excellent game for all to enjoy (except poor JR & LP)

An excellent game maybe, but.... err.. I could not enjoy it thoroughly.
Too much tension, I stopped watching it in the middle of the 3rd game.
    Phew, what a match!

Ya, congrats to Sigit and Candra. You are still the best MD pair we have!

I think most of the younger pairs are attack-oriented (Fu/Cai, Markis/Hendra). They can win games against top pairs, however, they do need to beef up their defense, which is also their main weakness.

Candra/Sigit have a really good defense, as shown in the first set of last Sunday's match. They were contented in letting the Danes throw whatever they may have in the first set and hope that their stamina will drop in the later sets. They may not be as lethal as before in terms of smashes, but, they have changed their playing style...to be smart and attack only when needed.

cai/fu is very good at smashing (they hold the fastest smash) :) but they're lack of skill (like trick shots).. and they're not good at defense

    Hi JR,
Ever come across in your mind to partner someone like Tony or Halim or anyone not from the same country. Obviously not in Sudirman Cup or Thomas cup. But in any other open tournaments or champioship it should be possible right ?, or if you have to, declare as professional like all the tennis players.

Yep, just imagine if and when they polish their skills! They will be unstoppable. Regardless, they are so fun to watch because they jump all over the place and smash away. :p :D :D

yes , thats the home work for the coach especially Li Yong Bo, as a former double player he must know a weakness of Cai/FU...still young and fast, the weapon only smash ? couldn't stay long must have tactics, comunication between them in the match....hope they could be bright in next year...:D

i think cai/fu's problem isn't lack of skills. but lack of some smartness. they can play the fastest game, but not the smartest game. in fact, i think one of their problem is that they play so fast, they don't have time to think. they seem to be like the Koreans in the 90's. when they go fast and fast and fast. but the Koreans have to brains to back it up..

case in point, i think it was 2003 Japan Open, Cai/Fu vs. Kim/Ha. it was one of the fastest MD game i have ever seen, and Cai/Fu was fast on both the attack and defense. the Kim/Ha, being Kim/Ha, was able to match their speed, and on top of that, beat them by making the right shot at the right time.

and that's what missing with Cai/Fu, they try to beat their opponents with speed, but the top players are very much able to match their speed and at the end, it is the smarter side that wins.
