Luo Ying / Luo Yu have the most epic names ever. Luo is their surname. Ying (贏) means win, Yu (羽) means feathers, which can be short for badminton. So put together, it means win badminton. How awesome is that?
This is going to be so interesting. You just never get a chance to see the top singles players really duking it out with the top doubles players. It's just such a different game with different strategies and skill sets that it's hard for players to play both successfully. You look at Tennis, the top teams in doubles are upset all the time by scratch pairings of two random singles players who teamed up at a tournament for the hell of it. You don't see that in badminton at all. It speaks to the depth and the difference between singles and doubles in badminton versus tennis. I wonder who will be the front man and who will take the back =).
Could not see any of his matches in Lingsui. Base on what I observed in the Indian GPG his coach may be adopting a new style of play for him, one of patient rallying and accurate placing to out manoeuvre his opponent to create smashing opportunities in contrast to the speedy- attack style we saw in Australia and NZ last year. My 2-cent is that he is still trying to adapt to the new style.
I admit, the match wasn't as exciting as I was hoping it to be. Fairly lack luster in the rallies played, though it is an exhibition and perhaps they don't want to injure themselves. Lin Dan I think by far lacked energy out there, LCW was doing his part to spice things up.
yeah. it doesn't look like they planned it that well. if they had said, "let's make it fun and silly", there is enough firepower and potential humor in there to make it a match of epic proportion.
