If CJ won Swiss final tomorrow, then CJ would be ahead only on Olympic qualification point calculation but his BWF ranking is still no 5 next week.

That is because PG was runner up in Indian SS last year but that point is not counted towards Olympic

OK. This should make it a more interesting April 2012 :

    1. Peter Gade needs to make it to final of European championship in order to increase his Olympic point.

    2. If Chen Jin only finish runner up in BOTH Aussie GP gold and Asian championship, his point will not increase. So he has to be champions in either one or both in order to gain points. In Sydney, there is none of his teammate around to "help". No LD, CL, WZM, DPY but he is top seed there.
For those who believe that he does not have enough stamina to win both tournament, then it might be better choice to choose to play in one and play in "easier" one. We don't know the entry list yet for Asian Badminton Championship.

Not Necessary. It is a repeat of Olympics Bronze medal match in 2008. It is all about game plan. If he get it right and plays his normal game without thinking too much about the London Olympics qualification, it is very likely that he can beat LHI especially if the game go down to the rubber game. I hope Chen Jin can win and get his confidence back on track and prove that he doesn't need help from his teammates to go to London. Good luck Chen Jin. I know he can do it.

Sorry to hear about PG, I hope he gets better soon.

I think the dark horse coming into the Olympics might be Lee Hyun Il, if he beats CJ tomorrow, I think it's a sign a new challenger has arrived!

i seriously cannot understand the mathematical logic behind calculating the players' ranking points towards the OG.

Peter gade crashed out in two tournaments. Earning him minimal points while Chen Jin has finished one round better than him plus made it to the Swiss Open final.

By right, he should be leading instead of trailing Peter Gade with margin of 6000 points based on just these two tournaments.

BWF really come up with a lot of cheap and irrational schemes to stop the Chinese dominance. Shame on IOC and BWF!!! Big Shame

finally all the top 10 are qualified.
if PG win the european MS, CJ needs to be in the final of the india SS or to win the Asian MS and in the SF of the india SS to keep his place to London.

Yes genius :p, the 10 best results still count. And he already earned his 10 best regardless of what Chen Jin does these days. Only thing Chen Jin can do is improve his own 10 best results.
But for Gade one result will still fall away which I initially thought was the start of the qualifying period but apparently was just a week early: the India Open SS.

And as to why it is important to Gade to be in the top 4: he wants to medal. That it also happens to eliminate CJ from the Olympics is an added bonus should it happen. And it is easier to reach the SF being a top 4 seed than meeting one of them in the QF ;).

because only the highest 10 counted, as their average of the top 10 is about 7000 points. the early rounds are normally discarded

Still seems like a tough ask for CJ IMO. He scraped through last time despite injuries in the final tournaments, but this time?

I think providing his injury is better the european shouldnt be much trouble for him, which leads CJ having to win AC or IND SS, both are tough asks.

What if gade makes only QF or SF in EC? What does CJ have to do then?

if PG makes only SF, no change. CJ will be still 1000 points ahead.
if PG and CJ both make the final in the European and Asian respectively, CJ will be 60 points ahead.
or if they both win, PG will be 35 points ahead.

then its really down to the India, i personally think PG wouldn't go being only a couple of days after the european.

if PG wins the european, CJ can still ahead by the runners up of both Asian and India SS

It is all down to the entry list of AC & Ind open then i guess.

Maybe LCW, TH & PG can help CJ out by not attending.

Better still, be a French player. Peter Gade, if fully fit, would win the European Champ.

I don't think Jan, Hans, Marc or Ouseph can beat Gade.

As a professional player in the mid 20s, you still cant beat an old man who is supposed to retire..there's something really WRONG with your game...lol

In fact, there are seriously many things wrong in the whole Europe if there is no one there could beat an old man who is supposed to retire soon...

Unless Jan, Han, Marc, Pablo, Ouseph, Cordon all decide to help Gade to regain the 4th ranking, I think Peter Gade has difficulty to regain the title in this european championship. Peter form has dropped significantly this year. I think part of it secondary to injury and lack of training (secondary to injury). His age is also a factor. At his current form, Jan and Han will beat him confidently and it won't be difficult for Marc, Kevin Cordon or Ouseph to upset him. Unless he makes a dramatical recovery in term of his form, I think the semifinal is a reasonable target and if he is lucky the best he can achieve is getting into final.

I would be surprised if kevin cordon helped gade win the EC. Last time i checked the map Guatemala wasnt in Europe.
