Alternate/Upgrade base clamps for 602FC/X-6FC

Had a bit of a chat with Gamma. The 6004 cam lock base will fit the 602FC with a bit of finagling,.

Will post results as i ordered a pair,

The base with the auto release wont fit.

Also am considering the Chinese auto release bases... just to see if it fits/tinker with,.

how much is the cam lock base?

you will like it. once dialed in, the locking action is very smooth. and it stays dialed in for a long time. I think i have only had to adjust it once every 500 string jobs if not more.

IME backlash never made enough of a difference to bother trying to mitigate - some of it is subtracted when the next string is pulled, I think.

not true. once i started nudging the base to get rid of the backlash, the resulting string job is noticably tighter.

Not a problem anymore. Gamma confirmed that their cam lock base from 6004 fits on the 602FC.
Ordered 2, problem quasi solved.

Cam lock base cost is 300-ish per piece.

Then why on earth didn't you just get a higher end machine in the first place? o_O

Required a small form factor to be paramount. (Original plan was to get a YY Precision 5.0, but then portability became a factor )

Let the clamps arrive, i will then have two Gamma Quick Action Swivel Clamp Bases clamps for sale.

Update.

Gamma cam lock bases arrived. And they are a perfect fit out of the box. Go figure.

Action is so much better on the cam lock bases, and as an added bonus, the locking bit that ride the rails is made of brass, so its also smoother than steel on aluminum,. (probably not as good as bearings)

Installation is a bit different, the brass locking bit has to be disassembled from the base clamp and installed from below the table. Pretty straight forward, no fuss.

Also the primary adjustment to tighten the action of the base is from the top and not from below, which makes thing much easier down the road.

I feel that the whole stringing machine design need to be remade from the ground up. All the way from the turntable, track, clamp base, clamp, to the racket support, and then the tensioner. There are too much legacy elements in current design.

Linear rail design has been really popularized nowadays with home 3d printer and cnc routers. It makes these metal to metal rails used by stringing machine look like stone age.
