Gu Juan is improving but still not pro-active, not attacking enough. When she tries to attack more, she makes more mistakes and ends up being on the defensive most of the time, and keeps lifting for IR to attack, not a good strategy. On the whole, quite a creditable performance by GJ, I've to admit.

Hope GJ learns to turn defense into attack more often because I don't see her becoming a more attacking player, you don't win by defending most of the time and hoping for the opponent to be make mistakes. Better luck next time.

Two INA MS suffered first round exit to CHN players, big upset third seed Tommy Sugiarto lost to qualifier Gao Huan in three games while the experienced Sony Dwi Kuncoro succumbed to former WJ Champion Wang Zhengming in 11-21 / 10-21. Only Hayom remains who will face Eric Pang...

Both Tago and Huan Gao is on to the next round. Tago's match with P.Kashyap was so extremely net focused it seemed.
Just in the last set that Tago started to play the flat style he sometimes plays.

Not a good run so far for the Indonesians. Indonesia suffer heavy casualties in this very early round. :crying:

P.Kashyap got faulted a few times at the net until he lost confidence. Tago kept playing net shots and that was when P.Kashyap lost the match.

Not that surprising. Son Wan Ho is a good player and Jorgensen is inconsistent like many Europeans.

But Son Wan Ho was shown the door in QF last week's German Open by a not in shape Marc Zwiebler - that's what surprising me.
Thought JOJ would made it to SF.

Son defeating Jorgensen doesn't surprise me one bit. How many can say that they've beaten LCW in the final of a SS? He was absent from the scene for a while, and now it looks like he's coming back slowly, and with a vengeance, too. I've observed Son's play and I detect no major weaknesses; on the contrary, everything looks quite well-rounded, but then again I'm no technical expert. I'd pick Son as the dark horse favourite to make it into the final. The Asian Games will be held in Korea in September, and I'm sure the major push from the Korean team has already begun (I was shocked upon reading about LYD's recent ban, and I'm sure the Koreans are too, but I have no doubt that they'll regroup).
