London to stage 2011 Badminton World Championships

London was officially unveiled on Monday as the venue for the 2011 World Championships as UK Sport, the funding body, keeps to its promise of delivering world-class events in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics.

Badminton England, the national governing body, will host the championships at Wembley Arena from Aug 8-14, and it forms part of the 64 events being held in Great Britain every two weeks up until 2012, announced last October at a cost of £32 million.

Locog, London 2012's organiser, has still to confirm that badminton will be hosted at Wembley for 2012 after initial plans to build a temporary stadium in Greenwich were put on the backburner due to the £40 million estimated cost.

Not really news then, we knew it was in London & there is only one place I can think they would stage it.......I had already assumed it was at wembley:(

Although it would be nice at the o2, Badminton just wouldn't get enough spectators IMHO....

Any potential Mens Singles player favourite come to mind?

    .
So... This event will happen in just about one year's time from now.

Any potential Mens Singles player favourite come to mind?

I think that Lee Chong Wei will be the favourite.

Badminton England start preparations for World Championships after Wembley nod

Badminton England, the national governing body, will meet world badminton officials in the next three weeks to begin preparations for the World Championships after an agreement was reached last week to host the sport at Wembley Arena in 2012.

The 2011 World Championships, to be held in August, will be a test event for the London 2012 Olympics and negotiations will take place with the Badminton World Federation to fathom expectations for the event.

Locog, London 2012's organisers, finally reached an agreement last week for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics to be staged at Wembley Arena after months of prolonged negotiations.
