Tough call!! Almost impossible for me to pick one above al the others! But here are the top 3. The player is very focussed on form, correctness etc; the girls in the background are almost holding their breath! Frozen in time: he seems to have been suspended with wires from the ceiling, and being drawn upward to the bird calling to him! Notice the lights being drawn upwards as well... No mercy!! That bird would want to get away from there, if it could. Her focus is on the job: "See bird; hit bird. Hard!" Notice the supination on the backswing. The guy in the background already pities the poor bird...
Sattawat beat Hock the last matchup at Dave Freeman I believe. He had to retire due to a quad injury according to the umpire doing that match. Big loss indeed, he would've played Ilian in the finals most likely. Ilian I think is the former #1 player from Cuba.
I was suspecting Lee to play Ilan I have seen Sattawat play when he came over in November, and honestly, it was nothing special, I was suprised he was seeded ! He played quite poorly, good fitness, but not very consistent from what I saw... Retiring and beating aren't really the same thing although they do result in the same outcome if you beat someone, then you assume they are both 100% if you beat someone via retirement of your opponent, then although you have won and it coubts as a victory, it doesn't always have the same credibility. E.g. If you play LCW and you are losing 0-21 0-20, he falls, breaks his leg, and can't continue, does it have the same sense of achievement as beating his without retirement. It's quite confusing what I posted, found it hard to explain.
Oh, sorry, I meant Sattawat and Hock played a full match where Sattawat won. But the scores were really iffy. 21-11, 5-21, 21-6. Hock had a quad injury at Adult Nationals against Agus Wijaya that made him retire.
Excellent shots Mr Kwun! Really like the actions and contrast. What lense and camera mode did u use to produce these shots?
thanks!! they are taken with a Canon 1Dmk3 with one of three lenses: 85/1.8, 35/1.4L, and a Tamron 17-35/2.8-4 taped to 17mm.
These are my 2 faves. 1) Check out how low her position is while "holding" the bird on the racket. All focus and concentration. 2) Now, this is unique jumping style, almost like the "cycling" motion a triple jumper would employ. Note the position of the bird BEHIND the racket (I know, it's an optical illusion).
Taking it a little further, how bright was the gym? Assuming you had the aperture opened to the max, what general shutter speed and ISO did you shoot at?
quite dark. typical setting is - ISO6400, f/2.8, 1/640. - ISO6400, f/1.8, 1/640. around there... pretty extreme settings. only possible due to modern sensors, noise reduction and small image size.
Well, some lights need a correction filter, and your colours were so sharp and lifelike, I just wondered! So you just do a white balance and everything's good?
really? i didn't know that filters would help. i only thought that they do that for film. no. i only adjusted white balance afterwards. didn't have to do much more than that in terms of color.
Spontaneous claustrophobia anyone? Kinda reminds of a scene in Highlander in the laundry room, this venue
and i thought you would like it. the first reaction got after walking in there is i thought i was in Holland with all the orangy walls!
Now that you mention it I thought it was red or at least the banners were. I love the lines in this angle also in a few other pics:
It's the first time I've seen a gym with so much orange in it. Isn't it kinda distracting, or at worse wearing on the eyes?
