There is hardly anything between the No 2 and 5 at all, about 700 points between PG and CJ, much better than my worst scenario.
I still believe that Chen Jin has a good chance to join his 2 teammates to London next year, we have to wait and see.
Thank you all your contributions in the discussions and it has been fun.
I will see you all at the next SS continue with the ‘what if …’.

IMHO, Chen Jin still has a good chance to join Chen Long and Lin Dan to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games.

    There are 2 persons that could help Chen Jin, namely;

    * Peter Gade - Who could lose his form.
But PG, who is a known great fighter, would be wishing to be seeded in the Top 4 for an easier draw. :):):)

    * Li Yongbo - Who could 'match-fix' some of the matches.
LYB could control the performances of Chen Long and Lin Dan in the remaining tournaments to come.:eek::eek:

If CJ is as consistent as PG and dont get drawn on LCWs side all the time, I cannot se how he would fail to beat PG in points.. He is simply a better player than PG..

:D:D:D Hahaha... That's what you think. But PG is such a great fighter.

I am sure that PG would be ranked in the Top 4, when the draw of the 2012 Olympic Games is made.

Fortunately, Li Yongbo cannot tell PG what to do. ;););)

I think PGs only chance if if he gets help from LCW, otherwise i think LD,CL, LCW and CJ will stop him earlier in tournament than CJ (who can get some freebies from team to help him reach final). And of course injury for LD, CJ etc.. I suspect WZM and maybe Viktor to surpass Gade Soon as well, but perhaps not before he retire.

I don't think PG and LCW will be involved in match-fixing. They have shown us that they will try to win their matches every time, even when not feeling well.

That s true. CJ has an advantage over PG. But as long as PG is a tournament top 4 seed, he s likely to meet CJ at QF which is a doable stage for PG to win. At the same time, CJ is now vulnerable to non-CHN youngsters in the first two rounds. So is PG. Watch out for dangerous, improving HK youngsters who has coaches that can think.

Based on what I've read here, indeed CJ does have a fighting chance to get into the top 4 and qualify for the Olympics. Still,I must say PG is the more consistent of the two unless CJ from now on starts performing better than what he's been doing so far. Whatever LYB may try to do for him, things don't necessarily turn out as they wished (as the saying goes:the best of plans may go awry),ultimately CJ has to depend on himself and win matches that mattered.

Chen Jin is a *younger* player than Peter (don't think he's better). Still, I don't think that guarantees him a win. He doesn't seem all that impressive lately... China can send 3. But could they without all the match fixing? Unlikely... I don't think that means they don't deserve to though (as players... ignoring the sportsmanship of the management for a second). Top 4 is a pretty stupid rule really. Unnecessarily restrictive.

Is there some reason they can't just make the draw bigger? Like the world champs?

Before you ask for bigger draw in MS/WS which is much broader..compare to Double which consists only 16 pairs...they should have 32 Pairs, not just 16 pairs...many countries have more than 2 pairs in top 16...

16 pairs is just ridicilous.. Cant really see how they are thinking just to save one round.

i think the problem is badminton limited by the Olympics to have a total players of 172. 16 pairs of the 3 double events already took up 96 players, that's probably the otipmised no of double pairs.

to increase the double pairs to 32, the total players would have to increased by another 96.

unless Olympics prepare to increase the no of players, that probably is a good balance between doubles and singles.

Just think of how BIG the Olympic Village needs to be to accommodate more participants. It would discourage more countries to bid to host for future Olympic Games. :D:D:D

    Agree. :D:D:D

But Swimming is many times more popular a sport compared to Badminton. Therefore, we expect it.

But seriously speaking, the Olympics is now staged as an entertainment event. The Olympics committee looks at the number of spectators turning up to watch their events. Currently I believe that for every 1 spectator turning up to watch Badminton, there are 10 for Swimming. Therefore, we find the Olympics allow more swimmers than Badminton players to participate in their events.

I do not agree with some of you folks about CJ being better then PG. In his best form, CJ is better, but as CJ's style is more physical then PG, it is difficult to maintain his top form all the time. Plus, we don't have to look at head-to-head, as the encounters between players are like matching couples, it all depends on the compatibility. PG's style makes him vulnerable to defensive players like CJ. To say that a player is better then another one, we have to compare the general record, not the head-to-head.
That said, after last year's Asian Games CJ form did drop seriously, but I never believed it was over for him ; I think it was only a break given to him after a really good display at 2010 WC and Asian games. Now he is slowly coming back to his previous form, which is not good news for other players.

don't get me started on the numbers.

Synchronized swimming have 24 teams of 9 Athletes for 2012 London, that is 216. women only of course, and that's more than the all 5 badminton events for both men and women added together.

Probably more than the people watching them!
