As far as I know, that rule has been changed. Now you just need to have the shaft pointing downward. You may still be right, but now the frame can be higher than the knuckles and still be within the rules.
That rule change was discussed in this thread, which includes this image, which shows a shaft on a downward angle but where the knuckles would definitely be below the top of the racquet frame.
One reason why LD lost was CJ's withdrawal. If he had played, CHJ wouldn't be as fresh in the final. LD played two matches the day before compared to CHJ's one. (although LD had a bye in the first round which CHJ had to play.) But as BadMania analysed rather convincingly, LD hasn't been successful in winning individual title after helping clinch the team in previous other Games. Here, LD had to play 5 mid level non-CHN opponents in a row, not being gifted any match holiday with any CHN MS, a situation he's not used to. Worse, he had to play non-CHN MS in both SF and F. In all his career to date, this is probably the fifth such encounter. All other tournament finals, he either played a CHN MS in the SF or F. So that's probably the key to LD's titles. This suggests that LD has to be fresher than his opponent or be energised by the jiayu crowd to win. Of course it could be LD thought that , looking at the field, he could just turn up and win. The EAG field looked like a playground compared to the MS minefield in SSMF. Was he wrong. The key reason for his loss was CHJ's perception of LD. CHJ's body language indicated he was not intimidated by or in awe of Superdan. LD was confident at the start of the match;note the unmistakeable swagger. The swagger disappeared after score 8-5 when CHJ forced LD to struggle with some shocking shots. Amazingly, CHJ also outnetted LD in the match. In both games, CHJ was trailing in the beginning but he overtook LD in the last quarter or so. CHJ's calm demeanour helped him keep his focus. No extreme emotions expressed after a big winning point or miss during the match. Look at how he reacted after sealing the matchpoint. Dropped the racket, then shook hands with LD like he's just another MS. There's no such thing as losing a match because it's not important. The danger of a top player losing to an unfancied opponent is this: It gives belief to other opponents that they can do the same. Top players continue to win partly because most of their opponents lack the self belief. ( Look at tennis pro, Davydenko. He has never beaten Federer. But after Federer lost to average Benneteau, who celebrated his win like he's done the impossible, Davydenko must be thinking, If Benneteau can, surely i can.) This match proves that, regardless of a player's titles, match preparation is key to winning a match, more so against unheard of opponents who do their homework.

CHJ played quite well. he was attacking LD from all angles. his smashes were also very accurate and powerful. whether or not LD underestimated his opponent, who knows? i would say LD was surprised at the shots CHJ had in his arsenal. even when LD played a good clear to the back court, CHJ could still play a smash winner. CHJ was unpredictable in his shot selections too IMO. he moved LD a fair bit and also alternated between clears and smashes.
Yes, although CHJ has got no any experience playing in international stage, he can even KO the OG champion, Lin dan in 2 sets Quite incredible isn't it? This shows that Upsets do happen and Not everyone is PERFECT
