India gains security OK to host badminton worlds Associated Press - April 16, 2009 9:53 AM ET NEW DELHI (AP) - Badminton's world governing body has granted security approval for Hyderabad, India, to host the world championships in August. The president of the Badminton Association of India told The Associated Press on Thursday that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has endorsed the security arrangements for the Aug. 10-16 worlds to be staged in the southern Indian city. V.K. Verma says the report was presented to the BWF's executive board during its recent meeting in Basel, Switzerland, where the Indian organizers were given a go-ahead for the world championships. Security has been a concern since six policemen and a driver were killed two months ago during a terror attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan.
I'm new member here. Originally from Hyderabad, INDIA, but settled in US. I [with my family] will be attending the WC' 09. Can't wait. Finished booking airline tickets. If someone have information regarding venue tickets, please pass on. I'll do likewise
Hmm, the tickets are sold based on full season, preliminary rounds (first 4 days) and final rounds (last 3 days). Huh, no choice but to buy the full season since I will be there from Thursday. Says here that we need to bring the confirmation form for pickup of tickets at venue. Well, almost similar to Sudirman Cup.
cool - I bought the tickets at ticketcounters.com and the site is pretty cool. It goes thru "Radiant Info Systems Ltd", a payment processor. The nice thing is it gives confirmation of the booking. You can print the page and since we must set up the account before we can buy, all the ticket information is still there and we can efer to it whenever we want. BTW, my reference numbers were 1188 and 1193. what were yours?
wow wish im going there this year i attended WC 2007 and it's such a great experience ive never been to India before and no relativer nor friends there, so i might get lost if im going ... i really wanna go
hahhaa yeah its a great idea but i dunno anything bout India... except any BCers here willing to guide me there for G sake it's world championship, one of the most prestigious event i encourage those who have the chance to go...
All you need is some research as to where you are going, transport system, accommodation, and anticipated culture shock + stomach-upsetting dishes (optional) . And always keep an open mind, especially when travelling on Indian roads. Lots of info and travel advisories over the Internet.
Hi Maypi, maybe you can join the Indonesian team and stay at the same hotel. There, you can mingle with all the players and coaches. I was with Ricky last week in JB and unfortunately my friends camera's battery was flat. On a personal basis, I think the Thomas cup is more exciting and may consider this trip next year.
ctjcad, u mean u will really come to Malaysia from USA for the Thomas Cup ? You must be one hell of a badminton fan !!! I am staying only 300km from KL and have never been to this event. If you are really coming, how can I miss it !!
And I notice that you are also coming !!! I will be great. Are u sure? Pardon my enthusiasm, I just join today.
Off topic-Sorry... ..you should've written: haha,i will surely go 200% ..God and also (wallet) willing, yes, i'll try to be there.. ..M'sian BCers, along with Indonesian BCers, are arguably the 2 biggest baddy groups in BC. So, yes, an event as big as the Thomas & Uber Cups or WC in KL, M'sia will definitely draw a huge following.. ..i thought you already attended the WC in 2007?? It's the same, except different venue and slightly different players involved.. - Planning to... - I'm not as travel-oriented baddy fan as a few other BCers in here. The gentleman, above your post, has been to & attended many more tourneys than me. I'll just go whenever i have a chance. You should check out the happenings in the 2007 WC sub-forum, I was fortunate to visit M'sia, meet other BCers & watch the WC at the same time, if only for a few days..Hope to meet you next yr, if i decide to go, again..
