Last two matches of final day saw two great comebacks, the nothing to lose INA young XD duo Cahyono/Kandow edged out home favourite in really close contest, probably this is most interesting tie of five finals, Chopra/Reddy couldn't maintain the big lead in second and deciding game. Later on, Sameer Verma also turned the tables on opening game against Soong Joo Ven, from 8-14, 11-15 then scored 10 consecutive points to take it, 21-15. Korean new hopeful Kim Ga Eun is the only unseeded finalist to top podium, stunned more experienced Deng Joy Xuan in three games, she has good potential and we'll see her development in next tournaments.
Panick? They have no other choice. Only Gregoria Mariska IMO has good prospect to compete in BWF World Tour top-tier (Super 1000, 750) and gaining valuable experience against the elite players.
For the second time in a row, France is European Junior Champion. They didn't won the title until the last year, which was their first success in the competition since the first edition in 1975. Arnaud Merkle is the main actor of this success. With Christo Popov (who was also in the team) and Toma Junior Popov (who was in the team last year), France could have a bright future in men's single. Danemark, who won the title 12 times, hasn't won it since 2013.
The two French juniors,Arnaud Merkle and Toma Junior Popov, are bright prospects. I have a feeling it won't be too long before France start challenging Denmark for European dominance. I understand the ex-Chinese player, Chen Gang, is now the new French coach , taking over from Peter Gade. He also sees a good future in French badminton , having once trained Brice Leverdez, if I'm not wrong.
The challenge of the French federation is now to attract these players into its national structure. Popov brothers and Arnaud Merkle have been training in their respective clubs so far, like Brice Leverdez did when he chose to be an independant player. His results have been beter than any other French player on the international circuit, and that explains, in part, why the Federation is struggling to attract young rising players. We'll see if there is any improvment in the near future with the new staff.
intermezzo: KSH/SBC already reached the SF of Bangka Belitung Indonesia Master 2018 this week and they said that they are aiming for Tokyo 2020 Gonna be fun towards the olympic
That would be great news. Where did you hear that? Interview? Hopefully Lee / Kim also make a full come back to the big stage! Then they should compete with Seo/Kim for the spots. At least let them fill the gap until BKA has new pairs competing with the very best...
From their interview, it was ported in instagram somewhere , forgot already where The last time I know, they can only send 2 pairs to olympic if they both are in top8 So that is gonna be harsh, with INA, DEN, CHN must also want to have 2 reps in MD It might even possible that Zhang Nan is not going to the Olympic in this case....

Both first seeds are from Thailand. I think Kunlavut has a very good chance to grab gold, but not so with Chaiwan.
