The 22-year-old yamaguchi admitted that a recent hip injury had affected her training for the World Championships. "I was not in peak condition and I did not reach some parts of the court as fast as I usually do
Okuhara speaks some English but I don't think it is good enough for an interview which actually also goes for a number of other players.
The unfortunate outcome here is that the interpreting is usually of such a low standard that half of what the players are saying (i.e., the more intricate, interesting, complex half) is never translated, and all that the listeners are treated to are limp comments, such as "I will try my best". It is such a shame.
Have you watched VTT play in other tournaments before? As much as I like her, and want her to do well for Vietnam and fans from "non -dominant" nations I don't think she stand any chance today. Not saying YJM is an "outstanding" player or anything, she still has age, momentum and relatively better footwork. VTT lacks almost everything other then doggednes to run for the shuttle every single time. Not taking anything away from VTT and YJM (they both did just enough to steak the match), I think we can all agree AY's loss was very much because of her own issues and not her abilities ("lack of backhand" for starters). I was also surprised Line K lost. On the good note, they both can have tournament of their lives, and a very good opportunity to progress further. Personally hope YJM wins, she's more threat to others, and deserves to do well after she did knockout the tournament favourite
Christina Pedersen yes. And GC couldn't stop raving about how good and effective her serves were. Ofcourse they were, she took minutes before serving looking in opponents eyes rather than shuttle waiting for them to loose their composure (although m kinda envious of her for that)
Im supporting VTT today..she won the trump.match for Bangalore in pbl finals! I think she is a bit underrated. She has speed consistency and a decent smash IMHO.
fact of the matter is everyone is entitled to their opinions....so yeah YJM supporters and VTT supporters......hold your breath longer coz the match is TOMORROW not today
In Badminton general Indian and Danish players speak great english I have heard PVS and SN whose first language is more or less english even their tweets are in english and in Denmark also they speak good english heard Peter Gade,VA,Antonsen etc Other nations players dont speak much english as much as we would love them to speak like LD yeah LCW does speak english but he speaks very slowly so it gets hard to understand...but Id love to have him as future commentator. PVS,SN,VA,LCW can be commentators for me anyday and if TTY,AY,NO learn english It would be awesome to have all of them as commentators.
I like how Jwala Gutta and Mark Lamsfuss just posted normal pictures of themselves What honesty and humility
I found the quote (12:35 in the video). Heo is both taller and more massive than Christie, I think that's what he's referring to. Importantly, he definitely has a more massive upper body (legs are not really important in that regard). If you look at both guys from the side and back, you'll notice HKH has a wider and deeper upper body, and in addition to being taller, that can add quite a bit of mass - looks like there might be 5kg between them, a bit hard to tell with Christie always wearing that pantyhose for some reason...5kg would be somewhere around 7% of Christie's bodyweight, I'm guessing, which would mean HKH would need to produce ~14,5% more force to accelerate at the same rate. Quite a significant difference in elite sports. Personally, I think the main difference is their speed of movement, which is partly because of the weight/build Morten mentioned and partly a difference in mobility/explosive strength, Christie seems to have a slightly lower stance which would allow for faster changes of direction. Maybe a slight difference in reaction speed as well, HKH seems to be turning around for the backhand quite a bit more even when he could play a RTH FH (again, that can have a variety of reasons).
