Peter Gade just gave the biggest gift to Chen Jin by losing early in the European Championships to... erm... Henri Herskainen of Sweden.
but unless Chen Jin won the BAC title this Sunday he still needs to beat PG at the India SS for certain. PG now get 2 more rest days for India if he decided to go.
technically, yes. but in reality, he only need to beat Hu Yun in the next round. the rest of the opponent are all Chinese!
Peter Gade is in no kind of form to go anywhere far in India. In fact, I'd be really surprised if he even goes to India.
It wouldn't make a difference whether Chen Jin wins the Asian Champion or not. If Chen Jin wins the Asian Champion, he will miss the Olympics only if Peter Gade wins the India Open. If Chen Jin doesn't win the Asian Champion, he will miss the Olympics only if Peter Gade at least makes it to the finals in India. Regardless Chen Jin wins the Asian Champion or not, who do you think Peter Gade will face in the finals of the India Open if he goes all the way there? Very likely it will be Lee Chong Wei - the very same person who doesn't want Chen Jin to make it to the Olympics. If necessarily, why can't matching f..ing still take place? The only difference is that this time, it involves players from 2 different nations.
But speaking realistically - PG is in no shape to get to the final of a SS tournament. Especially not one as important as the last one in the OG qualifying where everyone not already qualified fights even harder than usual. All of those praising his consistency forgot to mention the negative side of the coin - that he reached no finals (excluding the European Championships, where prior to 2012, he never lost a single match)
Chen Jin has Hu Yun to overcome and then it's all fixed matches to follow...Lin Dan will definitely let Chen Jin win and the same for the other Chinese players in the other half...Why waste the energy on this tournament, he should have finish it and pack his bags straight to India later..
For next week India Open, Peter Gade is slated to meet Chen Jin in the Semi-Final (if both wins their respective matches). From the thread discussions above, its seem the Olympic ticket is in Chen Jin's hand. CJ just need to beat PG in India Open 2012 .. . . . right? (ie. CJ does not need to win BAC 2012) http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draw.aspx?id=3B18A3AB-FF73-4577-8A05-A4B8CFE1CA8F&draw=2
That is correct. HOWEVER, if Chen Jin wins BAC 2012, even if he loses to Peter Gade in the semi's or if he doesn't make it to the semi's, Peter Gade still has to beat his opponent in the finals in order to not let Chen Jin go to the Olympics.
If Gade loses tothe Swedish player in EC where he should be confident, I can't see how people think he can go to india and Win next week.
that's the reason CJ has to win. let say if PG meet LCW in the final and we may have another curry episode.
Chen Jin has beaten H Y in quarter final and the chinese players monoply the semifinal spots. I think Chen Jin will win the championship. The last two games in BAC will be treated as two practice session for him before indian open SS. Perhaps, Lin Dan can play like LHI tonight to give Chen Jin a practice. If PG does get into Indian open ss final and face lee chong wei, LCW is still very possible play his normal game and beat P G in two sets in view of his work ethic. He also need the title to boost his confidence since he lost all england to LD in March. Having said that Chinese team can't rely Lee Chong Wei to beat PG in Indian open SS final. LCW may retire the game because he doesn't want to aggravate his shoulder injury. Then all the efforts chen Jin gave over the last few months became futile. In short, Chen Jin has to decide his own destiny.
His fate lies on his own hands. After all, he has received all the privileges and walkovers from Lin Dan and Chen Long and have failed to convert them on numerous occasions. Had he played his part well enough to execute the match fixing plan to perfection, he wouldn't have to travel around like a headless chicken searching for points. So he has to finish his saga in India unless Peter Gade throws in the towel and accepted the fact that he is too old to go that far in the Olympics
# Not exactly a "headless chicken" - he is nearly back to old form if his results are any indication. He had serious problems with a foot injury before, which is why he couldn't get his usual results. In Malaysia, you saw a clear example of him trying, but in the end he couldn't play an opponent of Tago's caliber with the injury. Imop, it'll be interesting to see how far Peter Gade gets in India - I wouldn't be too surprised if he threw the towel alltogether to cure his injury, but my guess is that he'll treat the matches as 'advanced training' and use them to get/stay match fit. He'll probably not fight with he's got though to prevent aggravating that injury, after all he's already qualified for the OG and his chances for a medal are the most important thing to him now.
AlanY; So what Peter Gade needs to do and hope now ? I think even if he faces Chen Jin in the semis and went on to win the India SS, Chen Jin still qualifies for OG marginally; thanks to full points awarded to him from BAC.
